Not sure what point you're trying to make. He dropped The Chapelle Show because he wasn't sure if he was doing more harm than good with the kind of humor it featured. After that he made no effort to be in the spotlight. Now that he's showing interest in being in the spotlight again, under his own terms, of course people are throwing money at him. He's still Dave Chapelle, one of the biggest comedians on the planet.

What's so cool about being a standup comedian is the power you have. It's not like being an actor or a sports player since you can always perform at venues and make money. You can do podcasts, write movies, have a sitcom, have a talk show, a youtube channel, etc. It's probably the hardest yet most fulfilling job in entertainment.
