This is deeper than that. A lot of artists in various sections of the entertainment industry take these deals because they need the money, and are desperate to get put on. They are not thinking about the potential of their material being used decades later, and they don’t get paid. And the reality is, if they don’t sign, there are other people with the same amount of talent who ARE willing to sign. That is the point of capitalism. Make as much money as possible for yourself or your company, and if someone else gets screwed, so what.

:yeshrug:

It’s cutthroat, but it is what it is.

Look at Tyler Perry. He owns ALL his stuff. From his first film, he paid for it, directed it, and produced it. I used to laugh at him for naming everything “Tyler Perry’s”, but I get it now.

And thats what’s happening :yeshrug:

Do what fans think is right or they will boycott the shyt:yeshrug:

And do you think it’s fair that he can’t even use his name or likeness to create another show?

nope but that what happens when you are broke and desperate to get put on

these companies have all the leverage when it comes to up and coming talent

if dave didn't signed that deal somebody else would have

Everyone has made points I would have made so yes, this was great etc etc. But I want to talk about him mentioning that the show magically appeared on streaming platforms shortly after his SNL gig was announced. I notice this often, not only on streaming platforms but even basic cable. New Jurrassic World movie coming out? TNT, TBS, etc start showing the old Jurassic Park films. Netflix about to announce The Irishman, starring Robert De Niro? Suddenly Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, etc are streaming on Neflix. There's a clear game being played, where content is acquired in order to market future content. There's nothing wrong with this, obviously. It's smart business, it's a brilliant way to get people ready for shyt. But it's another example of profit being king, and anything that's exploited or taken advantage of...well, too bad. You lose. That's the mentality.

Wow...I was literally just watching the Chapelle Show on Netflix last night:dwillhuh:

Dave has just inspired me to add something to my homeschool though; my babies and I are going to learn how to read and interpret different types of contracts together as an ongoing reading comprehension exercise. That whole story about Comedy Central was eye-opening about how we don’t really even understand legalese as laymen. I cannot believe he doesn’t earn money off that show.
