If Pablo stayed in his "lane" and quiet he probably would still be alive...

When he hit Forbes and tried to run for congress the most powerful families that run the country felt threatened...Pablo was a peasant who came from nothing trying to take over a country run by silver spoon fed fakkits that inherited their wealth...The majority of them were no better than Pablo was but felt entitled to power because of their family name...

Then you had the Americans who were pissed off because cocaine was taking dollars out of American industry pockets...So the Colombian oligarchs enlisted the aid of the Americans to take the common enemy Pablo down...This demonic union was entirely responsible for the war and bloodshed that followed...

The majority of that bloodshed was due to extradition which the Americans and oligarchs wanted because Pablo was so popular they could never keep him in a Colombian prison...He practically owned the country...They bribed and killed just as much as Pablo did to get what they wanted...

And now they got the Mexican cartels. :mjlol:

All that work to kill one man to give rise and power to an even more evil drug empire.

Why didn't he just buy his own island like one of those Virgin ones

His downfall was mainly due to his love for Colombia

I watched 2 or 3 episodes, but :damn: I do NOT like watching shows where most of the dialogue is in spanish without being able to change it to english dubbing.

if it weren't for the narrator, I'd swear this was a foreign tv series.

This show isn't for lazy idiots that can barely read. Go watch 24.

I wonder if Escobar really talked like that?

That actor defiantly looks like him

The actor looks to have an accent to his Spanish that most Colombians don't have. His acting is top notch. though.

Just looked it up. He's Brazilian.

As far as the slang and cuz words yeah they talk like that.

Hijo de puta

As a portuguese native-speaker I've been aware of Wagner Moura (dude playing Pablo) since the early 2000's when he was doing novelas. First novela I saw him I just knew he was :wow: as an actor and I was like 13 or something.
I didn't follow his career but when I came across Elite Squad 1 & 2 it just became more clear that what I saw at 13 in dude was real as fukk. He's one of the Brazilian GOATs for real. Homie's range is deep, I've seen him play a spoiled brat, a near bum, family man, cop, and now gangster and he just fits.

His accent in this series is pretty bad objectively speaking. :francis: But then you gotta account for the fact that he didn't speak a lick of spanish prior to this role, and the fact that his body language and everything as Pablo is what makes him outstanding. :wow:

I give it 2.5 stars and that's being generous. :francis:

Expected better but knew to temper my expectations considering it was a netflix series. I haven't decided if I'll return next season. Maybe just cuz it's a short season anyways. They tried atleast. I'll give them the effort. Hopefully next season focuses on the dea and other subjects.

I just finished my 2nd re-watch. This is definitely the best new series of the year. Pedro Pascal and the guy who plays Escobar better be nominated for Emmy's next year.

Quality first season. I marathoned in two days and am definitely looking forward to the second season. Pedro Pascal and the Gustavo character were my favorite performances. Pablo was played well when he actually talked. When he wasn't talking, which was a lot, I could tell what emotion was being conveyed moreso from the other characters in the scene or just assuming where the scene was headed as opposed to his nonverbal acting ability. I was really happy that they didn't go the lazy route of having the Colombian characters speak English in situations where they wouldn't or couldn't.

My main and only real gripe was the Steve Murphy character. I wasn't looking for a Pablo Escobar fictional biography at all, and don't mind them focusing on the DEA, but Murphy very much forced into this story. The was no need for a narrator in this show. It added nothing to the story. If you want to flesh out a character on the DEA side, cool, but I can't even tell if that's what they were going for. I'm assuming we're supposed to infer that dealing with this case has turned Murphy from the happy go lucky dude who was chasing down dudes in South Beach for weed into the emotionally unstable dude that pulls a gun on a taxi driver who he rear ended. But we're never given a reason to give a fukk about the character in the first pace so how are we supposed to notice or care about that change? We're supposed to care that he adopts this little Colombian girl, but why? Why does he take the baby in the first place? He met the mom once, he didn't have any connection to them whatsoever. I just feel like they didn't know if they wanted to flesh the character or or if they wanted to make this about the case and about Escobar. Besides that one thing, it's a good show
