It's a Japanese production so its guaranteed to look cheap. If they even attempt to adapt the Dark Tournament its gonna be absolute garbage.

I heard talks they about to give One Piece the live action treatment on Netflix also :francis:

You'd need a Disney/MCU type budget and a shyt ton of CGI to get all the diffrent types of chracters and powers to match the source material in a live action film for that series.

Yep, they already got a showrunner and a head writer to make 10 hour long episodes. Picked a location to film (Cape Studios in South Africa, same studio that filmed Black Sails), hired SFX artists and would have probably had a cast and started shooting if not for the pandemic.

Conventional wisdom says One Piece will be a disaster, hell I thought this was a terrible decision initially...but there are actually some encouraging signs:

-Rumored to have a Game of Thrones level budget

-First season will focus on East Blue which doesn't require an insane budget

-The head writer is a MASSIVE fan of One Piece

-Oda has a hand in the development

-The leaked rough draft pilot script looked pretty good

I'm keeping my eye on its development because as crazy as it may sound this could be a sleeper.

Is this an American(Westernized) re-imagining of One Piece or a Japanese production using Japanese actors?

Because One Piece is one of the few animes where you wouldnt necessarily have to have them be Japanese. Could be multicultural.

I won't blame them if they cancel after 1 or 2 seasons. Anything beyond east blue saga is just insanity.

That GOT budget is a red flag. They tried to sell Altered Carbon with that and it didn't last long.

Yusuke my nikka :banderas:

But, I just don't see them being able to recapture what made him, him

And watch them make either Kurama or Hiei gay or bisexual with the way things been going :upsetfavre:

Nah they will wait until (if they get that far) the chapter black arc to start pushing that LGBT shyt with Sensui & Itsuki:francis:

Western production.

The OP Netflix twitter account has alluded to the main cast being multicultural.

I'm pretty sure Oda has gotten offers in the past from Japanese studios for an adaptation and refused cuz he knew that shyt would look like trash lol.

The GoT budget is a rumor I saw. Nobody involved has directly compared the budget to GoT, all I've seen is statements that OP is a huge production in comparison to Cowboy Bebop and Snowpiercer (two shows under the same studio).

What happened with Altered Carbon? I know it got cancelled and the 2nd season was seen as disappointing, but from the little I saw of the 1st season it looked really good.

They pretty much put it out to pasture. There weren't enough viewers to justify the cost. :martin: Netflix made a big deal about the budget for S1, Joel Kinnaman even made a comment about it being real expensive. After that they took their sweet time starting production on S2 when it was greenlit before S1 premiered. Then S2 rolls out almost two years later with little advertising and the budget decrease was obvious. So I don't trust them to commit long term with monster budgets unless shyt is doing Stranger Things numbers.

You know who could probably do live Anime adaptations? The guy who made kungfu hustle and shaolin soccer. He probably could handle it

:usure: Stephen Chow was approached to do Dragon Ball. He's a fan but he wasn't interested. He produced Evolution instead.

Stop. How are they going to handle the Dark Tournament? Or the Demon World saga? You can't capture the personalities of the main characters in real life. Someone like Kuwabara only works in animation.
tournament is not hard, plus the characters of YYH are diff where they are more realistic and less wacky. so its possible. CGI may make the demon world look kinda cheap and not as good as animated but its possible.

kuwabaras character is really no that hard to replicate in live action.

can you post the rough draft pilot script? if you dont mind

and OP is a anmoly where no one can compare it. OP is the biggest manga series ever and this live action series is made to commemorate it as not onl their biggest series but their longest fantasy/adventure/ action series ever.(i was told this by someone who knows alot about anime, i dont know shyt outside of OP, so you might have to fact check. But i think hes right)

Plus the fact that its the face of WSJ and that company shueisha

and given everything you said, OP might(or might not) pull it off perhaps.:ehh:

YYH is nowhere near OP, so it will never get that i think. Its not even at Bleach or Naruto level in terms of status.

Man stop. That shyt will come off mad corny in real life. This shyt is doomed to fail. You can't name any animated show that was successfully translated to live action.

bleach literally just had a well recieved live action

and you had other fantasy live actions to

YYH is not a high fantasy series with out of this world hard to replicate features like DB, One piece, etc.

YYH's aesthethic lends it to have a world shaped that it can be replicated. yes it will come off corny to some like you but for the sake of live action, it wont be as bad and can seem passable as opposed to adaption of other series.
