Les Nubians are arguably some of my favourite musicians. I'll never forget the day I found out about them.
Was on the road headed back from a Halloween Party 2016. It's about 2 AM and I just got back into the DC area from Baltimore (about a 1 hour drive). Switched the station to 95.5 and they had like a soulful throwback special.
"Makeda" came on and instantly I was hooked. I pulled over and pulled out my Shazam app. Once I got the track I went back home and went through their catalog. At that time I was a senior in college and still taking French so my fascination was sky high at the time.
Their first album "Princess Nubiennes" is really in a league of its own. I missed them when they came to DC last summer (2017) .
I really want to seem them perform live. Their songs are just so well done.
Desoleé's drums are just something else.
