what kind of police department needs a college degree, never heard of that (note some of the most god awful superiors in these departments and other high ranking officers in departments are all educated and they are some of the dumbest officers around so I don't even think it makes that much of a difference)

Unfortunately, New Orleans no longer requires that their police officers have a 2-year college degree. They weren't able to fill positions with that requirement.

For the NYPD you need 60 college credits

I don't know about New Orleans but in NYC you can earn college credits in a few high schools. I'm a big fan of Medgar Evers Prep High School. Some of their grads leave high school with an associates degree. Other have AP credits. Also CUNY-2 year is one of the best bargains in the country.

Police departments are under pressure in a lot of cities to become more racially diverse and better reflect the communities they serve. To do that they are being forced to lower their requirements for the job. The fact of the matter is that black people have lower rates of college degrees so it is harder to recruit them if you require a college degree.

What is more important to you: a diverse police department or a highly educated police department?

Just because you are educated doesn't mean you are intelligent you stay with the false equivalencies just test them to make sure they can do the job properly show empathy instead of just pulling out there gun and killing people and make sure they aren't crazy its not that hard.
