who then "owns" mars? Or certain lands on mars? Who can build on mars, or the moon, or anywhere else? That is where this ends up going and honestly i don't know that there is a "right" answer.

I don't pretend to have all the answers, but i find this stuff fascinating. Maybe we need a Homestead Act for space.:leon:

I bet privitized space would really take off then.

We'd have mars colonized within 10 years particularly if we found some Unobtanium or something like that.

Doesn't mean no one else could fill that void in the future, or even now.

It's highly unlikely, considering both the resource demand and the legal issues. There are some things for which government monopolies actually do work best, as even Milton Friedman granted.
