I shaved with regular razors when I was younger but the more facial hair I grew as I got older , the worst it got. The electric razors do the same, but without the deep cyst like bumps where you cant get the hair. I'll check out tend skin.

I'm black with hardcore coils (my hair doesnt even retain water moisture after showering)
Just a heads up on the Tend Skin, it will dry out the skin when breaking down the bumps to expose the ingrown hair so I will usually apply some shea butter or Aquaphor to moisturize the skin at night. I've tried all of the major products(Bump Patrol, Bump Stopper, etc) and it works the best and fastest imo tho.

I use this. I found that I was never shaving wrong, I can shave with the grain, against the grain, multiple passes. Using a cheap dollar store blades, a mach 3 or whatever, straight razor, foil, electric, Clippers...u name it.

For me what was happening even though I used after shave and alcohol and astringents was that my shyt would dry up and when it dries up the hair couldnt pierce through, would get trapped and bump up, itch and get irritated.

I did use bump stopper when I was like 19/20. And the only thing it was doing was keeping my skin moisturized so 48hrs or so when it started to grow back it came natural, no bumps, no itchy.

To summarize my lady and daughter have naturally curly hair and use all these different moisturizers and products. I used to do my Lil girls hair now she has braids but every once in a while rocks the curls or curly fro. I was researching and went down a black woman's hair forum tips/tricks and was told about

I use it on my head and neck, rub it in the beard then brush the beard. Or if I shave. No bumps, no itchy, not greasy, don't stink.

Facts.

Tendskin used dry and flake my shyt up but it made it easy to remove the ingrown hairs.

Bump patrol/stopper stopped working for me.

Looking for a good electric face razor to dead this shyt for good.

Ignore the idiots saying rubbing alcohol, that will literally just dry out your skin and make it more irritable

I have to be completely clean shaven for work, actually..I could die if I don’t have a clean face

Get tend skin + max strength bump stopper. Use in conjunction with some type of daily facial wash. Moisturize with raw shea or coco butter

as one breh said. if you can let your hair grow out fro atleast a month to let you skin heal and your folicles calm the fukk down. do that
then try a rockin with a double edged razor. shave only after a warm shower, exfoliate your skin. use a quality shave oil and shave cream on top of it, NEVER shave against the grain. the whole post @Complexion posted is a good guide. after you shave use tend skin, THEN use jojoba oil and a shave balm a few minutes after that. tend skin will dry your skin out.

Thread is full of solid advice. I'd say go for a double edge razor and some good shaving cream. Go with the grain is the gospel

I've never discussed this online or in real life before, and I don't have a lot of detail(prob should've taken notes) but I have a strong suspicion that there's also a diet component to razor bumps

I do frequent extended fasts(48hr, 72-96hr on occasion for mental reasons) and I've noticed that i stopped getting razor bumps and haven't had them outside of a stray 2-3 for YEARS

Even before incorporating fasting into my life I noticed incorporating things like Turmeric, black seed oil(among a few others) into my diet had an enormous effect as well. The coincidence with adding those things to my diet happened to be much better skin

My loose(LOOSE) guess is fasting+cleaner eating (don't get me wrong I love my bullshyt food but again I fast a lot) has made my body optimally hydrated to the point where I dont get bumps. I really believe hydration is the number one priority regarding this topic

My best advice in this context would be to hydrate like a madman until you see results then start throttling back to see where your minimum may lie. I admit I'm an outlier when it comes to hydration because I love water and can drink a gallon on accident. There are times where I've gluttonously consumed 2 gallons of water in a day.

If water isn't your thing consume more fruit. I personally believe fruit is far more hydrating than water, but this is personal and I have nothing to back it up besides my own experience

There is no lack of advice to moisturize, and this is true, but this advice overwhelmingly refers to external moisturizing. The absolute best moisturizing comes from the inside out so you can Vaseline, castor oil, coconut oil your skin all you want, but if your insides ain't right that'll only go but so far.

You'll also find that when you're internally moisturized enough, you barely need to put anything on top of your skin. External moisturizing should be an accessory, not the headliner

Don't use fancy razors with multiple blades. Keep it simple and get some single blade disposable razors, or a safety razor. Anyone is fine, but for the razor blades, I like this brand called Eagle. Your skin care is also important. Keep your face clean and exfoliate. Also take some time to make sure your face and beard are warmed up. I typically put a hot towel on my face and head for a few minutes. And for me my nutrition helped also. When my diet was total shyt I got all types of hair bumps no matter what I did. Once I did something as simple as drinking more water, consuming less sugar, etc, my skin got way better.
