Need help with a computer virus problem

Windows 7; 64-bit laptop with Microsoft Security Essentials on it.

Every time I try to run a full virus scan, my computer just shuts off at a certain point. If I run a quick scan it's fine. I'm assuming this is some type of virus. I've searched and tried a few solutions: checking the registry, running in safe mode with networking, but nothing has worked.

Anybody have any ideas of what it could be and possible solutions?

Download Malwarebytes and Superantispyware then run full scans in Safemode with Networking.

I tried that with MSE and it still shut down. Will it be any different with those?

Malwarebytes is the key...safe mode scan and see if the answer pops up.

It's kind of unusual that it still happens in safe mode as most viruses can't operate in that mode. It may not be a virus at all, I would look into hardware issues.

Say, for example, that your cpu fan wasn't working right. A full scan could cause enough cpu usage to make the cpu overheat, and the cpu would shut down automatically to protect itself. You may also want to double check to make sure that your cpu, hard drive, etc., are getting enough power from the power supply since lack of power can cause the computer to shut down, especially when you put it to work on something.

You may also want to check your power savings settings and make sure the computer isn't just going to sleep, or triggerning a screen saver or something that's causing the computer to crash.

So yeah, overall I'd say look into hardware issues.

Not OP, but I think I may have a problem similar to this. My laptop just dies on me when I'm on some streaming sites. Last time I tried to watch the UFC fight shyt crashed my browser and brought me the blue screen. Another time, I was watching when my shyt crashed. . Youtube, WSHH () all that other shyt works fine, but back alleys sites crash my shyt. I ran a virus scan yesterday that removed some malware, but I'm too scared to go back on those sites. I was kinda hoping to stream Summer Slam tonight too.

Any advice?

I would try the programs I mentioned in safemode and hopefully something will pop up thats the cause. If not then it could be the power supply or the motherboard faulty.

I'm running Malwarebytes right now; has hits on 20 objects so far and my computer hasn't shut down yet.

My power source is fine and the system isn't overheating either. Don't see how it could be either of those things, though I'm no computer expert

Not OP, but I think I may have a problem similar to this. My laptop just dies on me when I'm on some streaming sites. Well, first off, check and make sure you don't have dust or anything on your laptop blocking airflow. I would also check the CPU temp. You can either check it in the BIOS, or download a program to check it (you can search on google for free programs for this). Check and make sure your fans are working. Might also want to check your battery and see if a different AC Adapter makes a difference.

Since you have trouble streaming videos, you may also want to update your video drivers.

Breh, trust me, I work on an IT help desk. Those things can cause your computer to shut down.

CPUs are usually programmed to automatically shut down if the temperature gets too high. And any of your PC components not getting enough power can cause problems including shutdowns or reboots. And I don't mean the outlet in the wall not working, I mean if your computers internal power supply is going bad or not outputting enough juice.

I would advise you to check your CPU temp and check your fans to make sure they're working. Just because your computer doesn't FEEL hot doesn't mean the CPU isn't getting too hot and shutting down. Also make sure there's no dust or anything like that blocking airflow.

the computer should shut down if a virus is detected during a scan...it should be straight if it restarts...just keep running the scan...you should be able to clean the computer and remove the virus from quarantine with microsoft security essentials...

Thanks, man. I know I need a new battery, my shyt doesn't hold a charge. I gotta stay plugged in. My comp is type dusty too.

Don't use superantispyware. it used to be a pretty good app but not anymore.

if anything use Stinger by Mcafee. It's a free download on their site, just google it. it's pretty good.

I downloaded Core Temp to check the temperature in my computer. It says 105 C is the max and my shyt is going over that. It'll stay in the 90s with dips into the 70s, then flare up over 100.

I'm assuming I need a new fan in my computer? My shyt keeps shutting down when I try to update Starcraft 2 now
