DEALERSHIPS, GARAGES & PART SHOPS
Cars and customization are two ingredients which help define Need for Speed and when it comes to Payback you’ll have more ways than ever before to interact with both of these elements. Whether it’s buying cars, picking up new parts or finding a sweet new garage to store your collection of cars in.

Dealerships
As you play through Need for Speed Payback there’ll be times when you’re going to find yourself wanting a new car. Whether it’s because there’s a new event that’s opened up and you require a car of a certain class or perhaps you just want to add a little extra variety into your line up.

To purchase a car you’ll be needing to travel to one of the dealerships that are located throughout Fortune Valley. Feeling like something a bit more Exotic? You’ll be needing to head on over to the FVX Exotics to pick up your new set of wheels. Further Dealerships can also be found specialising in Classic, Muscle, Rally, Sports and Sports Compact.

Not all cars are available at all dealerships so be sure to keep checking back to see what’s on sale.

Part Shops
Owning a car is all well and good but under the hood is what really matters. Part Shops, of which there are multiple located across Fortune Valley are the go-to place to try your luck at finding that sought-after part or component.

As you progress through Need for Speed Payback you will earn parts by winning events but Part Shops become an alternative for when you’re looking for specific. With a little luck, the stock on offer will be just what you’re needing.

Be sure to check back regularly as the stock is constantly changing – who knows what you’ll uncover. Alongside a selection of performance parts, you’ll also be able to browse through a selection of items such as bonnets, spoilers, fenders and other visual parts from your garage.

Acquiring new parts is all well and good but what you’re really going to want to do is to equip the parts. Part Shops offer this functionality, allowing you to take any of the parts you’ve recently purchased or won and equip them to your car, without ever needing to go back to your garage.

Under the hood may be what turns your car into a monster of the streets (or off-road) but there’s no denying that rocking up to the starting line in a car that looks like perfection, well, there’s no better feeling.

Garages
Your home away from home the garage is where the magic happens and more importantly, it’s where you store your cars and parts. The garage is the place you’ll be visiting should you wish to change car, configure parts on your car, use the paint and wrap editor, visually customize, construct a Derelict or sell any cars that you own.

So what’s better than one garage…multiple garages!

As you progress through Need for Speed Payback you’ll have the ability to purchase new garages, increasing the number of cars you can store in your virtual warehouse. Once you’ve acquired all five garages you’ll be granted access to the unlimited virtual warehouse space, allowing you to own an unlimited number of cars.

Gas Stations
Fans of previous Need for Speed games will be familiar with Gas Stations and they’ll once again make a return in Payback.

Driving through a Gas Station will refill your nitrous to full along with repairing any visual damage your car may have sustained.

Live Tuning

We’ve talked about taking your dream car from Scrap to Stock to Supercar, adding that extra personal touch with vanity itemsand upgrading the performance. But you’re still going to have to drive your car and no matter how good it looks, or what it’s got under the hood, the way it feels is always going to be of paramount priority.

The handling tuning options in Need for Speed Payback allow you to setup your car, so it feels just the way you want it to. Bring up the tuning sliders at any time, even when out driving in the world and with the push of a button, you’ve got yourself a new handling setup. No need to even turn your engine off.

Handling tuning is all about fidelity and feeling how the car behaves. The ability to live tune ‘on the fly’ will no doubt help you find your own piece of personal perfection. Feeling brave? Bring up the sliders mid-drift and hope for the best.

Each car class has its own unique set of sliders, allowing you to tune the handling of each class in the ways you’d expect. Get behind the wheel of your drag monster and change the gearing or modify the weight balance on your drift machine. Whichever choice you make you’ll always retain the integrity of your car’s class as your fine tuning.

Performance Customization

Performance Parts in Need for Speed Payback provide you with some of the deepest and most strategic choices seen in a Need for Speed game to date.

Any newly purchased car will come with a selection of stock parts already applied to it, but to compete with the best you’re going to want to apply some upgrades. Parts come in six categories; Block, Head, Turbo, Exhaust, ECU, Transmission and you’ll be wanting upgrades across the board to ensure you remain competitive.

There are many ways to acquire parts, such as winning events which will award parts at random. You will also be able to purchase items through the Part Shops ever changing stock. There’s also the Targeted Roll system which allows for a little more choice in terms of your chosen part, but comes at the expense of a few of your unwanted parts which need to be recycled.

The level of your parts is one of the most important factors when it comes to upgrading your performance. The higher the level, the more performance you’re going to get. The level of your parts also help determine the tier of your car. If you’ve got a car with a set of level 1 parts applied to it, it’ll be Tier 1.0. Equip another car with level 18 (maximum level) parts and the tier will increase to 3.99.

Take your performance further by equipping parts with associated perks.

Perks provide an additional bonus to many of your cars key performance areas; Top Speed, Acceleration, nitrous, Air and Braking. Get lucky and find parts with multiple perks to really push your performance to the next level.

Brand synergy is also of vital importance. Equip multiple parts from the same brand to receive an additional bonus to your performance. The performance increase all depends on the type of brand and what they specialize in, so pick carefully.

Build up your dream car from stock all the way up to supercar. Equip a few Air perks to your off-road baby and watch her fly over those desert crests. Match those Americana branded parts for a huge Nitrous bonus for your Racing beast. Build your car, your way and fill your garages with a collection of very sweet machines.

Derelict Cars

There’s nothing better than creating your own one of a kind car but what if you could take that one step further and build it from scrap? In Need for Speed Payback we’re adding a new type of car, something we’re calling Derelicts. Derelicts are cars that you build up, from nothing but scrap, to stock and ultimately supercar. But to start any Derelict project, you’re going to need to find a chassis, from there on your one of a kind ride awaits.

Once you’ve found a chassis you’ll see it in your garage, waiting for you to find the parts that make it complete. If you don’t have an open slot available you’ll be prompted to finish or cancel your existing project or acquire an additional garage. Alongside the chassis you’ll also need to locate four other parts; wheels, drivetrain and two unique parts that are specific to your chosen Derelict build. Each of the five parts that make up a Derelict can be found hidden throughout Fortune Valley.

You’ll be able to choose one Derelict project at a time to track and by doing so you’ll find clues and pointers showing where the parts you need may be located. The exact location will be up for you to pinpoint, get out there and explore.

You’ve found your chassis, wheels, drivetrain and two unique parts, what next? This is where the fun really starts and you take your Derelict from Scrap to Stock. Once you’ve completed a Derelict project you’ll have the option to convert it into a drivable car. More importantly you’ll be given the choice of turning it into one of the five car classes.

Unlike regular cars, Derelicts have the ability to be each and every car class available. Ever wanted to turn a Chevrolet Bel Air into a off-road racing monster? Well now’s your chance, but choose wisely, once your decision has been made there’s no going back. Once you’ve selected your car class your Derelict will now be a fully drivable car and will act and have the same options available as a regular car. Visually customize it, apply performance parts and give it a wicked paint job. This wouldn’t be Need for Speed if we didn’t push things a little bit further and that’s where Super Builds come in.

Upgrade your Derelict to Tier 3 and you’ll be able to turn it into a Super Build . Allowing you to unlock more extreme visual customization, turning what was once a piece of scrap into an absolute beast.

yTx0Rgy.jpg

Once you’ve completed your Derelict the original stock version will become available at one of the dealerships. For example, you turn your Ford Mustang 1965 into an off-road animal but want to add a race version to your collection? Head to the dealership that specializes in classic cars, hand over your cash and the car is yours.

In total there are five Derelict projects for you to complete. The Chevrolet Bel Air 1955, Ford Mustang 1965, NISSAN Fairlady ZG 1971, Chevrolet C10 Stepside Pickup 1965 and the Volkswagen Beetle 1963. Get out there, start your Derelict project and turn it from Scrap, to Stock to Supercar.

Vanity Item Customization

You’ve built up your dream car, it’s looking like a work of art but now it’s time to add those personal touches to truly make it yours.

Take your visual customization further and build out your dream car with the addition of Vanity Items. There's multiple types of vanity item on offer in NFS Payback, each one allowing you to customize your car with that little extra personal flavour; Underglow, Tire Smoke, Nitrous Flames and Air Suspension.

Underglow (or neons) have been one of the most requested features for any Need for Speed game so we’re incredible excited to be bringing you them in Payback. We can’t wait to see how you’ll incorporate them into your car designs, cruising around Fortune Valley at night has never looked so good.

Part of the fun of hitting the Nitrous is watching your car spit out flames and in Need for Speed Payback you’ll be able to add a touch of your own personality by adding a splash of colour. Say you’ve built a car in cool blue, you’ve added some blue Underglow, so now the only thing that’s left is to complete the effect with some blue nitrous.

TvhSi2l.jpg

How low can you go? Apply some air suspension and watch as your car lowers itself even closer to the floor. Switch off your engine and watch as your car all but sits on the floor. Slammed? You got it! Perfect for creating that ultimate Snapshot.

There’s nothing quite like creating a storm of smoke in the middle of the street through some enthusiastic drifting or donuts. Add a bit of personal flavour by customizing the colour of your tire smoke, or keep it stock – it’s your call.

Combine these vanity options with the visual and performance updates in Need for Speed Payback to create your own of a kind dream ride. If there’s one thing for sure, your garage is going to look the best it ever has.

Car Classes

The cars in Need for Speed Payback are broken down into five unique classes so when you drive up to the starting line of an event you better be sure you’re behind the wheel of the right class of car.
Car class is determined at the point of purchase, however not all cars can be every class. The freedom to choose from each of the five classes is reserved specifically for the Derelicts, whereas most cars will have 2-3 classes to select from.

Race
The staple for any car collection and in order to compete within the street racing events of Need for Speed Payback you’re going to want to have a number of these stored in your garages. Some of the best at cornering and with a solid straight-line speed, cars in this class can be seen as the balanced allrounder. Have a street race coming up that is based on tarmac? You’ll be wanting one of these.

Off-Road
With the ability to go truly off-road in Need for Speed Payback you’re going to need cars that excel at leaving the tarmac behind and switching it out for sand, dirt and other loose surfaces. The ability to maintain speed while driving off-road, coupled with stability in the air and good recovery on landing make these the go-to car class for any off-road based activity.

Drag
There’s nothing quite like going insanely fast in a straight line and that’s where Drag cars come into play. In an event that requires cornering? Look elsewhere. However, should you require some rocket like speed in a straight line, then you’ve come to the right place. Throw in some extra powerful nitrous and the ability to perform a wheelie and drag cars are truly a sight to behold.

Drift
While not as fast in a straight line or when taking a standard turn as the Race class, Drift cars still have the ability to put out some decent speeds. Where they truly shine is sweeping mountain roads where you’re going to want to make a series of alternating turns in quick succession. In the need of a car that can throw itself sideways through a series of turns at speed? You’ve come to the right place.

Runner
Every now and then you’ll find yourself in need of a car for a special type of job, that’s when the Runner class comes into play. When picking a car of the Runner class you’ll notice a few visual differences; subtle paint job, black rims, tinted windows, lowered ride height, wide track width and the absence of a license plate. Agile, precise, good landing stability and great at getting away from the cops.

Spike Strips
When the cops start placing Spike Strips you'll know they will do anything to immobilize your car and make sure you are pinned as a result.

9TPro2l.jpg

Killswitch
You better hope that you don’t find yourself being targeted by a Killswitch. If you do, you better shake it off by any means necessary. You’re going to need to physically shunt the cops targeting you in order to break the lock.

The cops are more aggressive than before
New and improved cop AI ensures they'll be working together as a unit, utilizing maneuvers as a group and adapting their behavior based on your speed. Take down cops to gain an edge, when they push you, push back harder.

Feeling Confident, Place a Side Bet
Keep the faith in your driving ability and win big by placing a side bet before each event. Win the bet, and the event, and you'll drive away with a reward, fail and you drive away with nothing.

Autolog Recommendations
In the gambler's paradise of Fortune Valley you'll always have someone betting against you. Regardless if the challenge comes from an unknown Rival or close Friend, beat the competition to take their place on the leaderboard and walk away with the reward that comes with it.
