Never thought this would be such a difficult choice. I have Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. With that said, this TV will be used primarily for streaming live sporting events so the ability to use the NBC, Fox Sports and ESPN apps to watch live content will be crucial to me. I think I'm debating between the Nexus Player and the Fire TV. Which is better? Any thoughts on which I should get?

Get that Fire TV and throw Kodi on it, breh. Only advantages of the Nexus player is native chromecast ability (you need an app to cast on FTV) and the $25 price tag but I'm not so sure that's a good thing. :francis:

Android TV boxes don't have a proper Amazon Video app. He gotta go with the Fire TV.

Um yes they do and you can also install the Amazon prime video repository in Kodi TV on your android box to get all of the videos via your account

:usure: The only Android TV devices that have a proper native Amazon Video app are 2015 Sony Smart TVs with Android TV & that Amazon Video app won't work if you sideload it on another Android TV device.

:francis: That's the mobile app. Last time, I checked the mobile Amazon Video android app only streams & downloads in Standard-Def. Not only that, I pretty sure you need an air mouse to operate it if you sideload on a android TV device.

When I said there was no proper Amazon Video app for Android TV, I meant an app that was meant for a TV device that you could stream/download In HD & operated fine with just the remote.
