Wow. Shocking that all the shooting victims are still alive.

Time to bring in the National Guard or the Feds. to Philly. That's inevitable at this point.
What do you believe the national guard could achieve? I don't think bringing them in is going to do anything but further exacerbate things. Gotta do something about all the guns. There are just too many guns floating around the city.

Above the fray.

Philly Police Dept. is obviously overwhelmed by the increase in crime.

Send in soldiers, or state/federal police to handle some of the duties that can free up the local police to address the pressing public safety problem.

Isn't Philly murder cap this year? All brotherly love jokes aside. I hope whatever needs to happen to get a reduction does. Police is a double edge sword..

They’re not overwhelmed; they’re choosing not to actively police high crime areas. Their budget is approaching $800 million so money isn’t the issue. They’re opting to spend money on raises (which they all get regardless of performance) instead of hiring more officers.

“It’s typically cops on dots,” she said. “It’s putting cops in areas that are the most problematic and as we move into spring and summer when school lets out, making sure we have visibility at our recreation centers, our commercial corridors.”

But residents in areas affected by gun violence say they aren’t seeing the type of community policing they feel would prevent shootings.

“I’ll see them sit in a car,” said Nicetown block captain Gilbert Coleman. “I don’t see them patrolling the community or taking a look to see what’s really going on … 50 feet, 100 feet away there’s activities which the police should be involved in.”

If they do bring in outside resources, which I do believe they should at this point, they shouldn’t be left off the hook or portrayed as doing “all they can.”

Philly has one of the most well funded police departments in the country. It's one of the most over-policed cities in the country too. They also have units that target non-fatal shootings. There's gotta be a more effective way to address this without bringing in a military force.

I think the state legislature blocking cities from enacting gun laws is a problem that needs to be addressed first before moving on to more extreme measures like this.

Something something rec centers
Don't poopoo this, because it has a positive effect, to an extent. Violence intervention programs work too. You know what doesn't work? shyt like stop-and-frisk.
