This is the real reason, but the Globes are a soft enough target where you can grandstand and do your performative protests without damaging your career. Nobody in the HFPA has any power in the making or selling of movies so there's no one to piss off. They're just a bunch of foreign journalists who don't even work for any of the major publications in their countries.

It was already on the verge of collapse and people have never taken it seriously, so this is just everybody coming around to kick the corpse to say they were a part of "change"
