Yankees have 1 title in 20 years and nobody's writing think pieces as to how to fix them I get it though. Ideally the Knicks are just good enough to lose in big games because everyone wants that atmosphere at the Garden (even the atmosphere has never changed). In fact, no other NY team makes a league feel better because they're good.

As for A's, they'll still be ass. They'll just be ass somewhere else. If they were good, it wouldn't hurt Major League Baseball. We'd encourage it because the A's have a rich history.

This is a bit of a different argument than what you initially said, the Yankees being good definitely produces more income more engagement for the MLB whether you think that makes the league feel better or not really doesn’t negate the fact that those teams being successful are in fact much more enriching to the league than a team like the A’s who aren’t winning and unlike a Knicks or Yankees they can’t keep their relevancy in spite of their on field/court product because they’re not a marquee franchise.

I don’t agree that this dynamic “explains why the nba will never” reach a certain level however as this is the same dynamic across every spot …The NFL sees it with the Cowboys etc etc …fanbases will never be dispersed evenly and due to that certain fanbases bring more attention from fans and media members alike for their leagues which is good.
