New details have emerged regarding the arrest of a G League basketball player who was released by the Stockton Kings on Friday after he was taken into custody in Sacramento County.
KLAS-TV reported Chance Comanche was arrested in connection with the disappearance of a woman in Las Vegas. Loved ones told the Las Vegas television station the woman, 23-year-old Marayna Rodgers, was last seen Dec. 6.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office assisted the FBI in arresting Comanche, as The Sacramento Bee first reported on Friday. The Stockton Kings, a G League affiliate of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, released Comanche shortly before he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
According to KLAS, a woman identified as Sakari Harnden, 19, has also been arrested in connection with the case. Both were arrested on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping, according to KLAS.
A criminal complaint for the kidnapping charge against Harnden stated that she held or detained Rodgers against her will and without her consent for the purpose of killing her and/or inflicting bodily harm, KLAS reported.
Las Vegas Justic Court Judge Diana Sullivan reportedly set Harnden’s bail at $500,000. The judge instructed prosecutors to “notify the Court immediately if the alleged victim is located alive,” according to KLAS. Comanche is being held without bail in Sacramento, according to jail records.
Comanche is scheduled to appear before a judge in Sacramento Superior Court at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Loved ones told KLAS Rodgers had a good job as a medical assistant in Washington. She was visiting Las Vegas with friends and would not have abandoned her dogs, which she brought with her on the trip.
Comanche was in the Las Vegas area on Dec. 5 when the Stockton Kings played the G League Ignite at Dollar Loan Center in nearby Henderson, Nevada. Comanche had 16 points and six rebounds in that game.
Stockton then visited the Rip City Remix on Dec. 9 in Portland, Oregon, before returning to California to play the Salt Lake City Stars on Tuesday. Comanche had 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting with 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocked shots against Salt Lake City, the last game he played prior to his arrest.
