Pretty sure there was a recession up until about 95 -96 . The nineties wasn't that great

Atleast this country had a Billion dollar surplus back then instead of a trillion dollar deficit that will never be paid in our lifetime...

But yeah...I agree...people tend to view things like these through a nostalgic lens that amplifies the good and completely pushes the bad as far back as possible.

People forget that 1,000,000 people died in the Rwandan genocide of 1994
War in Sarejevo and Serbia
The gulf war
etc...

but we were young then and didn't really understand the magnitude of these events until we reached an age where we could...

you mean when the crack epedemic hit, violence at an all time high, 2-3 wars, police brutality at its worst, racism etc. :sas1:

I'm talking financially, job wise, and opportunity wise. And subtle gains from civil rights...

But for black people? The greatest time for us in America was NEVER.

Racism? When has that ever left America? NEVER.

Police Brutality? When has that ever left America? NEVER. The way you say this people would be led to believe that we ain't getting our asses beat by cops anymore...

Wars? You act like there hasn't been a war or a military conflict each decade since the 50s.

Now that you say this...it's like choosing between a luxury car with a flat tire or a showboat with holes in it...one looks better than the other but they are both quintessentially f*cked up.

So...we could choose between a gentrified NYC where the average rent is $2000 or a NYC n the 90s where you had to risk getting stabbed and shot at...

Let's just bask in the 90s glory...no need to make things difficult with logic...:sas2:
besides I need to f*cking sleep.

I believe the 90s Is considered the last great decade because people weren't deep into technology yet.

People still talked on phones
People weren't fake friends with you on a social site
Kids played with toys
Kids went outside
Toddlers weren't handed $500 iPads to play with
People would go out and actually not be glued to their phones.
No fake photographers.
People didn't act like they had to announce they were doing something in order for it to happen.
Children didn't need cellphones.

For real this list could go on forever. We have all became spoiled in the sense of technology (the ones that have it)

Norfeast groovin…
It's clearly the last great decade, our branch of this generation is the dividing point between the world before technology and after. The only positive of today is information and entertainment is much more accessible. If you use the internet right you could be a straight up renaissance man/woman.

I kind of feel bad for 90s babies in this regard...I would never want to be a teenage in this time or in my early 20s. Life just seems way too confusing now for young people to truly enjoy it.

I guess...ignorance is bliss in a way. The internet unveiled so much that I don't think many people were prepared for. Our generation (90s kids) still had that innocence...the innocence that's completely disappeared from the younger generations. Cause we knew what life was like before the internet.

Life was just simple back then. You called your friends from the house phone, watched tv, rented a vhs, played a video game or two, or if you wanted to do something you went outside and did it. This technology obsessed culture has created a legion of shut ins and socially inept people.

Kids don't even play outside nowadays.

If the sun was out, it was impossible to keep my brothers and me inside.

But the 90's was the best time financially for Black people in America. The 90's was the only time there was a true Black middle class.

If your parents wasn't eating in the 90's, then you lost. :yeshrug:

Totally agree. The world was a lot better before cells and internet blow up. You had to work for information and knowledge. You have to read and buy book and mags. You had to travel to experience new things. That work made you value and appreciate things more. I'm glad i got to experience it.
(This whole post is not directed at you)
So you're saying that because in the 90's you had to walk.to the library or whatever to get the information you need its better than literally having all the knowledge in the world at your finger tips and all of the other massive benefits that come with the internet which far outweigh the negatives?
Pre internet people were a lot more ignorant.
Yah that's a huge case of nostalgia right there, the old back in my day we used to have to blah blah blah.
Sure there's some problems with the technological advantages that we've made and how it effects kids and teenagers but as a whole people are widely exaggerating this whole phenomenon of kids not playing outside any more or using toys because guess what? You're not witnessing it because you're not a kid who's playing outside or using toys or a teenager who's out roaming he town with his friends anymore. KIDS STILL PLAY OUTSIDE.
This wave of socially inept people you're claiming exists isn't really out there but it's something that you can see because of fringe internet communities and the ability to see these things more than you were able to in the past so it seems like there's more. I challenge you to travel.to any high school in America at lunch and tell me those are all socially inept teens.
Claiming that society is to complicated for children to enjoy it is just disingenuous because you haven't experienced their childhood and the same for teens because even with all this information at the ready they damn sure aint looking for it and even if they do see it they won't care.
What's the innocence that they're being protected from? We found porn magazines in a bag in a bush with empty beer cans and they find it on Google once they're old enough to know what to search, how to, and are old enough to be interested.
Wonder how many people were saying this exact thing about the people growing up in the 60's.
Technology wasn't popping in the 00's so those kids were out just as much as you.
And to the telephone booth guy, it's outdated technology get over it. That's why they're gone.
Or at least this is just my opinion.
(Still trying to figure out how having more technology means a decade can't be great)
People are on their phones to much though.
