Is the hate a product of the Kanye association? Album roll out? Length of the project given the 6 year hiatus? The Kelis drama?

Let me know fellas became the criticism outside of slow and 7 songs seems unfair.

I don't think the album roll out or six year hiatus played a role into the negative reviews, but the Kelis drama (#metoo) and Kanye (MAGA) association definitely contributed. It's obvious these reviewers aren't being objective. Artists now have to fit the definition of "woke" and not "problematic" for a fair review. Liberal hypocrites.

Nas is legit my guy. But what the hell did any of you expect?

94-96 prime Nas?

01-03 second wind Nas?

This man has entered that Ice Cube phase. Hip hop is his first love not his “go to”

I think we should appreciate the music and digest it with context. 94 Nasty Nas isn’t walking back through that door and it’s ok.

Looking back at Yeezy Season, Pusha T’s project was the best. It’s a hip hop classic. The impact the album had will be revisited for years to come

Yeah.. feels like an agenda

I’m reading reviews and in the review I see “Kanye, Trump, Kelis”.. the fukk does that have to do with the album content? Quality of the project?

I’m genuinely surprised at the amount of bad reviews. In my humble opinion, this is a great Nas album.

All things considered, he’s not in his prime, in the studio 24/7 and his business acumen has strengthend during his six year hiatus post Life is Good.

This is a 4 Mic project.

Nas’ Energy is high throughout the album
The content is diverse
The production is the best it’s been for Nas in almost 10 years
The album is cohesive and leaves you wanting more

The obvious Knock is it’s too short and his flow seems off on certain songs. Once again, he’s not the same Nas. He’s not living and breathing out of his rhyme book. We get new Nas music once a year now.

I would rank in the bad reviews for this album as the following.
1. Kelis drama.
2. Kanye hate.
3. 7 songs after no solo joint in 6 years.
4. 90 hip hop heads that want an Illmatic 2.
5. Jay-Z stans that use Everything Is Love dropping the following day as a way to try and shyt on Nas.
6. Album roll out.

Facts.

Nothing to do with the music and that’s sad. I can appreciate the critics who highlighted the issues with his flow on certain songs.. that’s a legitimate criticism but all the stuff you listed is agenda driven

I’m comfortable placing it above God Son and after Stillmatic.

Illmatic
It was written
Stillmatic
Nasir
I’Am
God’s Son
Untitled
Nastradmous
Streets Disciple
Hip hop is dead

I don’t rank The Lost Tapes and Distant Relatives tapes because of the type of albums they are respectively but they’re both really great projects.

Seems like there is an agenda here..

For years, critics campaigned for Nas to drop an album where was just rapping.. no concept or theme just rapping over the hottest production..

We got that.. no singles.. no silly gimmick for promotions just bars over great beats

Life Is Good was that album and it was well received. Nasir, while good, has flaws that critics have pointed with each album he dropped last decade except God's Son. Nas has quite a few mis-steps sometimes when he's randomly listing off information like he does on "Not For Radio".

The only real agenda with the critics is he dropped this album in the midst of the #MeToo movement and Kelis's allegations have been looming ever since this album was announced. The interview literally came out the day after the album was announced. People took sides, but Nas's side of the story hasn't been told. I think it was unrealistic to expect him to address Kelis on this album. He already did that with Life Is Good and him responding to allegations that he abused her is a lose/lose situation. Critics complained about him addressing the divorce on Life Is Good, so I could imagine how they'd respond to his reply to the allegations.

The opening track is the best and it feels like a weak rehash of hate me now and that conspiracy theory bullshyt second verse makes it unlistenable too :snoop::snoop:
Please Nas, release that album you been done with for like 2 fukkin years now. After so many years we need some good music from him damn :shaq2:

I've been saying this album is a grower since it came out. With some more listens I see nikkas on here sharing that sentiment. :myman:

Makes sense and works well with the concise 7 track design for replay value.

Then there are others who don't care for it as well.:manny: Can't please everyone.

After listening to this for the thousandth time, two things:

1. Playing this album LOUD AS FUKK adds another half a mic to the rating (normal 4, loud 4.5).

2. I finally hear what Push/y'all were talking about, this is Ye moderning his favorite Nas eras.

1. I Am/Hate Me Now 2018
2. Untitled/Nicca Tape/Cops Keep Firing 2018
3. Distant Relatives 2018
4. Life Is Good 2018
5. God's Son 2018
6. Illmatic 2018
7. IWW 2018
