I think that that the reason fans are harping on sales is because this is one of those albums that NEEDS to be commercially successful, not only for Nas's betterment of Nas's career, but for the overall welfare and continued evolution of Hip Hop as a genre. How many mainstream rap artists are releasing songs like Daughters? Songs like Nasty? Songs that are so deep, well thought out, executed, and written. Nas and Jay-Z are the FIRST middle aged Hip Hop icons to remain relevant for 20 plus years in the industry. They are our Rolling Stones, our Beatles, our Bob Dylan. Life Is Good is a ttrue work of artistry, his success, Failures, heartache and joy are sprawled across this album as if Nas had written the lyrics in a quill steeped in his own blood. This is NEEDED for Hip Hop to be viewed as an ARTFORM to be respected. You like lyrics, dope concepts, and well put together albums that don't sound like a collection of singles? Then go out and SUPPORT one of our only viable commercially recognized artists who continues to push the envelope forward and set the bar ever higher.

Supporting albums such as Life Is Good and showing that they can be commercially successful is how we as fans show that Lost Tapes 2 is a project worth releasing. That artists such as Lupe Fiasco shouldn't be forced to rhyme over bullshyt beats to the point where hes doing interviews talking about wanting to kill himself. That Saigon shouldn't have had to wait for SIX years to release what turned out to be the best debut album of 2011. That artists like Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, and Big KRIT are good long term investments. We want Hip Hop artists to have more LONG TERM relevance and the best way to do that is support The artists that have already proven long term relevance.

I agree with all of that. Also why I encouraged everyone I know to buy the album. But for hip hop to be respected as art it has to be treated as art and not a money grab. What I meant by that was I'm just sick of albums being judged by fans by their sales rather than their content. The fans have to grow up and treat it like the genius music genre it is. I think this album could be a watershed moment for hip hop to grow up an I know tht sales matter for us to get more of it, but I'm sick of albums worth being decided on whether they went plat or not. I don't know when that crap started but it has to stop. Miles Davis wasn't going 5x plat and the fans didn't give a shyt.

I also think the artists have to grow up. This is the first hip hop album
I've hear in AGES with original content. Ok youre all rich I get it. You know what? Im not rich. I'm struggling for my family to survive in ny. shyt sucks. Give me something beyond the braggadocio shyt. This album did that. That's why Nas to me is the greatest. He's always got something new.
