Some posters are taking this green dress thing too literally..
The reason he released the trailer with all the negative criticism was to let you know that he'll be addressing ALL of these factors on the album. Every single Nas album cover from Illmatic onward encorporates a certain element of symbolisim. This isn't going to be the "Kelis Album", the dress is a metaphor for all the negative things that he has had to weather the past 4 years. The contemplative look on his face symbolizes his recollection, contemplation, and conclusive acceptance of all these factors. After everything he's gone through, the baby mama drama with Carmen. The divorce. The spousal support payments. The public scrutiny. Struggling to be a good single father to a teenaged daughter raised by a woman who feels its acceptable to write tell all freak fest novels (but is upset at a single song dedicated to Destiny) the IRS payments. DESPITE all of this, the final conclusion that he comes to is that it's a blessing to be alive. A blessing to be an MC. A blessing that people listen to his music. A blessing that he can work with the Marley family and tour the world. A blessing that after 20 years in the game he's still a relevant force in a fickle, flash in the pan, trend driven industry.

Its like someone being depressed and at rock bottom saying "Well isn't this just wonderful" with the
face. We know things aren't wonderful but that's just a reaction we sometimes make when things are so fukked up.
That's basically what Nas is doing in this cover, its sarcasm. He knows he's been catching mad L's lately so he's sitting there with the smug face like "life is great"

Uh no. Have you LISTENED or read any Nas interview over the past couple months? He's enjoying life. Every moment he's taking to appreciate everything he has. Read the recent complex interview, he's not in a place where he's reached rock bottom nor is the album reflecting that mind state.

it aint sarcasm or irony, its juxtoposition. nas is saying that despite all this shyt going on, even at his lowest point, life is good. being alive and having these experiences, highs and lows, is good.
obviously.. the cover is symbolism..by putting it in the context of his life ..all of that becomes clear
