After sitting with it over the weekend I give it a solid 8/10. Solid album start to finish. But doesn't really have the highs of the previous albums. Nas was superb. But hit couldn't match his level. Some uninspired samples. And still think a lot of the beats feel too flat. Whoever mixed this should be dismissed. Has a few 10/10 tracks but overall they range around 7-8's.

Think the production on joey and Gibbs albums was far superior. You give Nas that joey production and this shyt is an entirely different level.

Imagine Nas over this shyt:ohlawd:

Funny enough Nas did the intro for joey that led into this track. I'm hyped to see Nas back in prime form. But also happy this could be the end of the hitboy collabs. Time for something fresh. But they ended it with a dope project. Still would rank joey and Gibbs above it though.

Not to derail the thread but this is Lupe speaking about relevancy :

He said it all

"You said to the Financial Times: “We’re not basketball players, who have a limit to their bodies and taper off. Rappers only get more skilled as we get older, because we have more experiences to draw from .” But there is of course a perception that many rappers fall off as they get older; I’m sure you and I could cite people who we felt that way about as fans.

That quote—or, not necessarily the quote, but the concept—actually came from Cassidy. I was just aping what he said. We had a conversation on IG Live one time and he mentioned that our skill sets, our craft isn’t based on anything physical. It’s not like we need knees to rap, need ACLs to rap. The things that come under pressure and get damaged in the career of a basketball player—we don’t have those. Our muscle is our cognition. Neuroplasticity lasts throughout your entire life. Even if you get to be 90 years old, your brain is still creating new pathways—maybe not at the speed or at the intensity it did when you were a child. I mean, the majority of your neuronal growth happens when you’re a baby, in terms of speed. Do you hear any babies rapping?

I have a 5-month-old, I’m trying to put her on Spice 1 but it’s not working.

Right [laughs]. That idea that rappers fall off isn’t from the rapper, it’s from the audience. The audience falls off. Rappers just get better and better and better and better. Melle Mel is just as good—he’s probably better now, 40 years later, than he was when he first started. You said rappers fall off—no, rappers don’t fall off. They don’t get worse at rapping. What happens is the audience changes, they lose interest. The dopamine, that wash of neurotransmitters that you got that first time you heard it, it tapers over time. Does weed fall off? Nah, the weed is just as strong as it was when you smoked it the first time, in terms of its biochemical properties. But your brain has become used to it, and requires higher and higher and higher and higher dosages to achieve that same effect that you had when you hit it the first time."

Damn i don't understand what this mixing issue is about, but a couple heads have brought it up. Maybe some of y'all are experts and the thousands of us on here and social media saying the beats are incredible have shyt in our ears.

What conforts me in thinking the opposite is that this Joey track you posted is a nice little joint, but it wouldn't crack the top 15 beats on KD3. And Nas would get trashed the fukk up if his album sounded like this. So thank God for Hitboy...

The majority of the beats on this Nas album sound like old backpacker beats:what:.... "I'm on fire" and "reminisce" sound like some shyt Kanye made when he was 16.

"Recession proof" sounds like some shyt black moon woulda rapped over in 92. And I actually like that beat. But stop it. Like I said. The production is solid. But hardly amazing like some of yall are making it seem. Some of yall in here acting like these beats are really blowing your mind:pachaha:.....this not even close to the best production being released today. Hit is dope but he's just not on that elite level.

And I gave the damn album 4 mics for fukk sake:hhh:.......what am i supposed to do?.....Call it a top 3 Nas album ever like some of yall?:what::mjlol:.......Anybody who believes this shyt is in nas's top 3 is a legit retard. This shyt is dope. Nothing more. It is what it is.

I actually thought the Joey album was dope, but it seemed like even his biggest fans aren't too big on it. Seemed like it should've had more impact. Not sure what that's about. It's not touching KD3 though imo.

I respect this, but several of these beats definitely would be up there with the best of today. For instance "30" and "Reminisce" are up there for me. If those were on that Drake/21 collabo album, they would be standouts. Drake drops "Serious" and that would be hailed as one of his best songs.

I think Hitboy is an ok producer, If i had to rate him I'd give him like a 7.5.

To me his greatest talent is he got Nas sounding like Nas again... I guess that counts the most. I'm not seeing this genius level producer here. I guess he's consistent ?

There's something about his beats, it just lacks something to me... I hear corny arrangements and odd sound choices on some songs...and the mixing, his beats are mixed to be the forefront rather than Nas.

Like I'm thinking back over all 4 of these releases, was there one classic beat ? Maybe Store Run... Maybe Moments ? To me HitBoy is holding these albums back, they're good releases that could be great-classic releases

I wish Kanye wasn't a dumbass and didn't rush the Gawd, took his time like he did with Push, even then.. As far as beats go ? I like Adam and Eve over anything on all 4 of these albums.
