If it weren't for the wack as "YKTV" (go on & throw your hate at me) joint on here....the album damn near flows flawlessly.

I don't think the issue was that he was never given "freedom" to do those commercial records, he just was never good at it. Especially when compared to DMX, Jay, Fat Joe etc. Even Mobb Deep has a better club and ladies track. AZ has a better ladies track to this day. It's just not his bag and it usually doesn't sound authentic. Looking back at those albums...shyt like You Owe Me, Rule, Braveheart Party, Summer On Smash, Dr Knockboot, Make The World Go Round...those are just bad or forgettable attempts.
Ladies track in of themselves aren't hated in rap. Go back and listen to how many ladies tracks are on Pete Rock & CL Smooth albums. There's a space for it. I just think for Nas he's not that type of artist and perhaps even worse, his teams at the labels weren't giving him the ladies tracks that would work for him (or he rejected them). Like if Nas was at Def Jam (late 90s/early 00s) someone would have been passing him What These bytches Want type shyt. Whether he would have taken the tracks is another question.
nikkas also forgot that Nas has tracks that could’ve been singles that he just didn’t push as a single for whatever stupid reason. shyt like You Know My Style and Virgo were clear singles material."You Owe Me" isn't forgettable. The rest of those, yes. "You Owe Me" is actually one of the better songs on Nastradamus, which isn't saying much, but it actually hit and definitely has a cult following unlike the other attempts. Nas still performs that song to great reception.
Nas is actually good at making "ladies tracks", but his best attempts were never singles:
You Won't See Me Tonight
Gettin Married (when XXL reviewed Street's Disciple, that song got high praise as the gulliest track on the album)
No One Else In The Room
Yes, there's some weird or even wack ones, but Nas, like other artists that aren't LL Cool J, was hit and miss with them.

Word up. I said that earlier in the thread.Even Replace Me on his 2nd to last album would have been huge if he for example replaced Big Sean with J Cole or Drake.

My girl loves that song. It did its job.If it weren't for the wack as "YKTV" (go on & throw your hate at me) joint on here....the album damn near flows flawlessly.

funny, i went to see Keith Sweat show last Sunday. He had a bunch of acts with him, Silk, Dru Hill, Tevin Campbell and Ginuwine.
Ginuwine performed You Owe Me and let Nas verse play. Had the crowd going. You Owe Me is a bonafide hit. He could have succeded in a dual lanes like Hov if Nas fans werent so corny in the 90s.
