Rolling Stone never pretended to know hip hop. They sort of always knew they didn’t know shyt

pitchfork I hate as they come with this arrogance that they know hip hop when they’re the types that only got into hip hop post Kanye and don’t know real MCing, the culture

what also I’ve noticed is modern non hip hop culture critics look down on rapping that floats between different subject matters in a verse and prefer where it sticks to a certain subject matter not understanding the free form nature of hip hop rhyming

I have no problems with them reviewing Hip Hop. My issue is when these entities label an album as "the most misogynist album of all time" knowing that it's a Hip Hop album and knowing that it's beating a dead horse discussing misogyny in Hip Hop. Then when Nas has songs where he's uplifting women and talking about relationships in a positive light, only an idiot would write a think piece about an album being the most misogynist album ever.

Who else can get on a trap beat like 40th side and not only has the flow for it but does lyrics like this:ohhh:

Damn, I gave the hood classics
Something to open your mind, instead of going out crashin'
How was you real when you hate the real?
My nikka, I'm simply askin'
Can't just talk about the plan, you gotta put it in action
Ain't no pity party for yourself
You gotta get up, rise for your wealth
Can't spend all that time in your feelings
Tryna sympathize with yourself (For real, for real)
Don't nobody owe you, ain't nobody holding you back (Woo)
You stuck in illusions, attached to something that ain’t even that
South Beach, Nassau, Amalfi, Maldives, same beach
Unless you are after somethin' most men just can’t see
Shorty off the block, shorty off the runway, same freak (For real, for real)
We all got the access to open doors like we share the same key

it literally amazes me that the last 4 songs are the least played:mindblown:

saw that too, i think people not used to listening to albums all the way like that. Aside from the Lauryn Hill spike, plays steadily decline from track 5 till the end :manny:

I feel like Hitboy was so confident because he's heard all these lyrics a hundred times at this point. Everytime I listen I find a new gem. Best of Nas always has been that. This album is fukking lyrical!
