What’s wack about it?
wack was too strong because the mic-rating system is iconic and endearing—there’s a reason rap fans still use that to measure their assessment of the quality of an album
it’s more so flawed
looking back on it, it’s the definitions for me—what’s the difference between slammin, dope, and good?
also slammin has not held up well over time—that term is dated
what constitutes an album needing work and thus deserving of only 2 mics?
i also think it’s tough, but not impossible, to instantly rate an album as classic but that’s what they would do whenever they gave an album 5 mics. every album isn’t an instant classic.
i also question whether they consistently held to these definitions when rating albums
it’s definitely been abused by fans too—my man in this thread said every album from Nas has been slammin; not just dope or good but slammin; none being average; none needing work; always definitely satisfied
i know I’m being nitpicky and overly critical
