This shyt is trash, lol. I never understood how people could just blindly defend artists/entertainers/athletes/whoever solely because they're fans of them. Objectivity is a beautiful thing man, feels good, lol.

I'm actually going to see Nas tonight in Virginia, I'm a super duper fan, it's supposed to be a 25 year anniversary for Illmatic show...but if he tries to play this trash I'm booing...loud, and I'm right in front of the stage.

LOL. I'd prolly just hit the bar or not bop my head if he played it. Report back to us tho.

Knowing where he got the idea and flow from I think it’s a dope Flip.

But I can get expecting to hear a continuation of Lost Tapes 1, hearing this and being disappointed

Idk how old you are so I don't know if you was into hip hop when that album dropped, but that album was panned by critics at the time, people saying it was trash and he sold out and all that. It wasn't until somewhat recently that that album started getting love like that. One of the main critiques of the album was it's production, so I can see Mega's point...he is a Nas hater though, lol.

What Mandela effect are you suffering from, this album was being blasted out of systems that whole summer. What is this talk of trash critiques by the ppl? Just off Affirmative Action alone it was the go to album, IIRTW was a BBQ staple

Word, IWW was a commercial success and the general public liked it but critics and hip-hop heads shytted on it for years and years. The perception of the album back then compared to now is like night and day. The main complaint being the production.

I really wish Nas and Cormega never beefed, this bullshyt song basically confirms what Mega said about Nas having a bunch of yes men around him.

"Like I remember when Nas was doing the "It Was Written" album. I would walk in the studio and let's just say I would hear a beat that was wack. I'd be like, "yo son, that shyt sounds like a shampoo commercial." I remember everybody in the room looked at me like I said something so terrible. They looked at me so crazy that I felt uncomfortable. It was like OK, in the Nas environment you got to kiss his ass. But that's not good for his career. Because when your not keepin' it real with him, your not helping his music. Where as if you critique his beats and say he needs a better beat, then his shyt would have been better. We have had our differences, but I bet you he respects me more then he respects alot of ni99az and he respects my judgment. I know people that don't even like me that say Mega has one of the best ears for beats in the business." - Cormega

And thats why Nas and Steve Stoute dropped Cormega like a bad habit. Could you IMAGINE listening to Cormega’s opinion on ANYTHING related to to Nas’s career at that time? Cormega, who was just coming off jail time, hanging around with people Nas was trying to transition away from, talking shyt about IWW production? IWW is one of Nas’s best produced albums top to bottom, with not ONLY beats by Trackmasters, but Premier and Havoc as well. It Was Written propelled Nas to Superstar status and helped him attain an audience that would sustain his career for going on TWENTY FIVE YEARS while Mega’s bad decision making and bitterness had him on the shelf for YEARS, and even then his biggest headlines came from dissing and/or talking about Nas.

Nas did the right thing not having Mega anywhere NEAR his career or circle after The Firm debacle.

People keep denying this but it's true. Heads hated on the album largely due to production. Meanwhile the streets+(white) masses fukked with the album.

Would you consider Jay Z in 1996 "the streets"? Do you think he lied when he said "one was meh, the other was Illmatic"?

Wrong. It was the critics and purist who tried to shyt on it and lets get it straight here. It wasnt even shytTED ON by the critics. shyt was given like 4’s and 4 and a half out of 5’s. But regardless of that. The streets fukked wit that album HEAVY. shyt was bumpin out of every whip. And everyone I knew had it and loved it. It actually put majority of his fanbase on to him. People went BACK and listened to Illmatic. The issue with the production wasnt the beats themselves. It was the damn people who made them. Alot of the producers on Illmatic was mad they didnt get a placement on IWW. And them purist fans were more mad at the names of the producers than the actual beats.
The Message is a classic beat
Street Dreams is a classic beat
I Gave You Power is a classic beat
Watch Dem nikkas is a dope beat
Nas Is Coming is a mediocre beat
Take It In Blood is a super classic beat
Affirmative Action is a classic beat
The Set Up is a classic beat
Black Girl Lost is a dope beat
Suspect is a classic beat
Shootouts was a crazy dope beat
Live nikka Rap was a classic beat
If I Ruled The World is a classic
Silent Murder is a classic.

Look at that shyt and tell me what’s wrong with the production. This is Jungle’s favorite Nas album by the way. nikka got production by Preemo, Stretch from Live Squad, Havoc got like 2 placements, Trackmasters did their thing with tryna keep they beats street. IWW is Nas’ most street album to date and it’s the album that the streets played the most outside of just NYC. We wouldnt be having this conversation if not for the overwhelming amount of love IWW got. Nas would be a has been.

Cornballs purists. That’s ALL. I aint met a street nikka in my life that dont think that’s a classic Nas album. The Source gave IWW the same score as Reasonable Doubt. Would u consider Reasonable Doubt to be critically panned? Let me put it in better perspective. Ready To Die got a half star less than Illmatic. And a half star more than It Was Written. But some people feel Ready To Die is a better album than both and a certified classic? Is it NOT a certified classic cause it got a half star less than Illmatic? It Was Written had critics disappointed and it didnt get the praise Illmatic got but it damn sure didnt get panned by critics. It got panned by haters and nikkas who couldnt get over Illmatic. DJ Vlad type nikkas.

Of course he lied. IWW is one of the blueprints for the style he ran with later on. That clean production is all over his second album lol. And we know Hov used to constantly chase Nas around giving him daps and begging to be in The Firm and other albums. If Hov wanted to say I Am and Nastradamus were wack fine, most people would agree to some extent. But IWW? Nah. Especially given the type of sound and beats Hov likes? Can't tell me he didn't fukk with IWW.

I think if you asked hip hop heads, producers, etc in 1996 who had the better album they'd say RD.

There are 3 disses that perfectly summed up my and many others' feelings about the intended targets at the time:

The bytch In Yoo
2nd Round KO
Takeover

Hov wasn't lying at all.
