One of the things I always respected about Nas was he’s never been afraid of taking creative risks. He’s a true artist, different from a lot of rappers. When you do that you win some and you lose some.

When he dropped Bridging The Gap as the lead single for SD I was :jbhmm:(it was a cool cut for what he was going for but definitely not a lead single for a double album)

Could have been several other joints that would have been better as the lead single.

But at the end of the day, Nas wanted his lead single to be a blues track with his pops on it, which to me is a really dope ass life achievement. Who can say they did that? So Nas is gonna always do what Nas wants, and I respect that.

Having said that, this snippet (all I’ve heard) isn’t good. Just like Nasir wasn’t good.

Not because Nas has fallen off (not even close, he still continues improving actually) but whoever is calling the shots on his music releases is not just dropping the ball, they’re throwing a PICK 6 because they are actually tarnishing his legacy.

Who is the exec producer? Is Nas making these calls? Does he only have yes men around him at this point?

To Nas true core fan base, LT1 is a classic album, had a cohesive vibe, nothing I can say that hasn’t been said 1000 times. The LT brand held serious weight off the strength of 1 compilation.

LT2 is damn near equivalent to Stillmatic dropping, WE GOTTA DO THIS RIGHT. Nas actually had something to prove again after Nasir.

This track as the first single? Really?:dahell::wtf:

:mindblown:

I already know this will be an auto skip on the album, it was on the cutting room floor for good reason and should have stayed there.

I would like to hear the thought process on how this went down.

shyts disappointing cuz Nas still on fire with his verses, he’s the GOAT. But we need an intervention on this trend I’m seeing
:unimpressed:

Of course still getting the album regardless, I’m sure there will be some great joints on there. But this is on par with about the worst type of song you could have released for this project:francis:

@Life is Good @Ziggiy

It’s always been this way he’s a great MC but can craft songs for sh1t and a terrible ear for beats

He doesn’t realize it’s MUSIC his ego gets in the way and it’s just him proving he can rhyme over anything

I really wish Nas and Cormega never beefed, this bullshyt song basically confirms what Mega said about Nas having a bunch of yes men around him.

"Like I remember when Nas was doing the "It Was Written" album. I would walk in the studio and let's just say I would hear a beat that was wack. I'd be like, "yo son, that shyt sounds like a shampoo commercial." I remember everybody in the room looked at me like I said something so terrible. They looked at me so crazy that I felt uncomfortable. It was like OK, in the Nas environment you got to kiss his ass. But that's not good for his career. Because when your not keepin' it real with him, your not helping his music. Where as if you critique his beats and say he needs a better beat, then his shyt would have been better. We have had our differences, but I bet you he respects me more then he respects alot of ni99az and he respects my judgment. I know people that don't even like me that say Mega has one of the best ears for beats in the business." - Cormega

Nas stans are dangerously close to "Beyhive" territory. Like, how the fukk do you defend this shyt?

I had to accept my L when Hov did that bumass, "cake, cake, cake" shyt, so why can't ya accept that this song is trash and a horrible choice as a single.

That's the bane of every lyrical rapper. They get so caught up in what theyre tryna Express poetically they forget the musical aspect of the craft

Not true at all. U dont have a successful 30 year career with 9 multiplatinum albums without knowing how to craft songs and pick beats. Nas is actually ELITE at crafting songs.
