The only time there were wrestling plants was in the late 90's/early 00's when WWE was using a Cali indy UPW as an unofficial development territory. That's where Cena started. Some think he was signed by WWE before he even joined UPW
It was a little weird that he happened to be the main focus of that Discovery Channel documentary about UPW back in 2000.

Then again, they probably did in-depth looks at everybody when filming but since Cena was one of the few who actually got signed they just chose to use his stuff.

A plant is not someone from developmental with a push, a plant would be someone who is "signed" by WWE but building up a name on the indies. I think Matt Riddle is a plant. I don't believe Hunter wouldn't sign him even tho Bro likes weed. I doubt it. I think Riddle is signed already.

I was just gonna say.

That is Matt riddle.

He's clearly been a WWE project handed to Gabe

on the Saturday edition of Observer Radio, Meltzer basically confirmed/explained this. Sean Waltman saw Riddle training at the Monster Factory, praised him to HHH, and HHH/Regal told Gabe (Evolve) to sign/develop him. WWE didn't want to directly sign him because he (Riddle) had marijuana violations from UFC and they wanted to have him on a probation period basically, but have him signed by someone they can control (i.e. keep him fron signing with NJPW, ROH, etc)

Still excited for Bloodsport though :whew:
