Donnie Yen's hero ex-cop fights Sammo Hung's crime boss in a high rise to rescue his former partner. By the end of the fight Donnie Yen is thrown out the window. He lands on a car that has Sammo's wife and infant daughter, all three are killed on impact. 
It's implied Sammo gets away with everything and the partner Donnie was trying to save gets a final scene of dying from his tumor.

Humanity catches the ultimate L by the aliens when they all get brainwashed for the take over. Main character loses her son and is left alone when the partner she had dips when they found out their plan failed, Morris Chestnut gets killed by his own daughter, human sympathizers get clapped. Without bringing in another party I can't see how they would have reversed this L for season 2.
