Bill Bhatti of the Dirty Sheets Podcast shared a report with SportsKeeda and shared how one idea from WWE Executive Producer Kevin Dunn changed the plans going forward into WrestleMania. According to Bill Bhatti, the reason John Cena defeated AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble was because he agreed to propose to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania, in-which the idea was proposed by Kevin Dunn.

Bhatti then went on to add that the original plan for the 2017 Royal Rumble was to have AJ Styles drop the WWE Championship to The Undertaker. Shortly after, Styles would head into the Elimination Chamber PPV and recapture the championship. Current WWE Champion Randy Orton was always penciled in as the winner of the 2017 Royal Rumble but the predicted match between him and Styles would have taken place at WrestleMania 33 opposed to the upcoming summer of 2017.

Let Kevin Dunn influence when you propose to your girlfriend brehs :mindblown::mindblown:. Miz ain't never lied

Also AJ/Taker would've been a classic and the phenomenal forearm/RKO spot in front of 70,000 would've been huge

Cena is a piece of work, he single handily stopped memorable matches in Royal Rumble 2017 and WrestleMania 33. He's worse than Hogan.

Cena "agreed to do it" because as usual he would come out on top despite how wrong that decision was and it would make him look good to the Total Bella fans and the low IQ fans. Miz and Maryse were the only reason that feud was interesting.

The fact that Cena insisted on it being a squash match/celebrity tabloid moment proved everything Miz/Maryse said about them leading up to the match to be true.
This whole feud was set up for the proposal

Why else would they constantly bring it up?

And you're not giving Cena his proper due

Him and Miz both had excellent promos

Just because Miz and Maryse were doing the heavy lifting doesn't mean it made sense for them to win the feud. The whole angle was to set up the proposal after the match, so even if Miz and Maryse had won, their win would have been immediately overshadowed anyway.
