Nobody thinks there is any merit to this? This particular meeting yielded little in terms of behavior change but I think that if they met repeatedly, the NAACP could possibly have the KKK put more pressure on the most radical members to become less violent and try instead to make changes through political means. It may be unlikely but what does it hurt to meet with them?

Nope just an optimist. I think they had more to gain from meeting with them than they had to lose. Maybe they could have convinced them to tone down the violence in this specific scenario. If one less black person gets beat up isn't that a small victory? They, like me, were thinking of ways to stop black people from getting beat up. As a black man, I consider that a worthwhile goal.

I can't do this anymore. Do you want my entire bio? What good would it do you to know my gender, racial status, income, sexual orientation, religious affiliation and whole life history? Read all of my previous posts if you are that interested. What does that have to do with what I posted?

Clearly if grown ass men in the situation thought about it and decided it was a good idea there is some merit to it. Maybe not much but they decided to take a gamble, talk to the group and see if anything could come of it. If nothing did, then whatever they lost nothing and can employ some other strategy. But if something did then it was worth it.

What would you, black male in his 20s raised by both parents and educated at one of the finest US institutions, suggest that they do? Easy to scoff at the choices of others. Harder to come up with a better strategy of your own.
