did not lead to online gaming

Console hardware had some nice ideas, but as far as gaming goes...nah it was a failure. It led to the downward spiral of Nintendo. They have been progressively worse since the N64.

online gaming was born because console makers wanted to tap into the PC gaming market....

Even if the N64 never existed, online gaming would have eventually came....it's natural progression of technology.

also can't say it revived the fps

mario 64 is uber trash

:stopitslime:

Goldeneye was the gold fukking standard for console shooters, breh and it stayed that way for almost 3 or 4 years.

agree with TS.

Despite the 64 being a commercial failure, it influenced the current gen more than any system of the era.

I think some of y'all don't remember (or don't know) what a phenomenon Goldeneye was back in the day. We used to spend HOURS on that multiplayer shyt...just straight KILLING it. Not to mention the single player story mode blew everyone away. It held down and re-invented the genre. You can definitely see its influence in future fps.

i wouldn't say it lead top online gaming since that was alrady going on on PC, but it did up the ante for multiplayer games on home consoles in a major way.

as far as first person shooters, goldeneye revolutionized that shyt to be what it is today. before that it was limited to doom and wolfenstein status (although turok was also a strong contender for a while).

and yeah mario 64 changed 3D gaming forever. if you remember when that came out that shyt was unbelievable. it was such a big step up from the games of that era. the closest thing we had up until that point was crash bandicoot and he only went sideways and forwards and never on the same stage (it was dope as fukk for what it was though). but yeah mario 64 is the father of today's games, anyone who would deny this is a fool.

the N64 was good and bad though, it easily had the best technology for its generation and when it was done right they made some really classic games, but they didn't really utilize the technlogy with alot of games. also suprisingly the lack of side scrolling games made it less accessable to the general public.
