This thread is celebrating the legacy and Impact of Hip Hop Greatest Group N.W.A., NWA hit hip hop so hard that it's still feeling the impact 29 years later. NWA changed hip hop forever, The Sound and Look of NWA is embedded in Hip Hop.

There's no group in hip-hop or an emcee in hip-hop that changed THE CULTURE OF A WHOLE and who influence in hip-hop is still being felt today that shook and changed hip-hop forever then NWA.

WHEN NWA dropped they changed the game forever, like QUESTLOVE from the ROOTS said "hip-hop have two halves, before NWA and after NWA"

N.W.A (abbreviation for nikkaz Wit Attitudes) was an American hip hop group from Compton, California, widely considered one of the seminal acts of the gangsta rap sub-genre, sometimes credited as the most important group in the history of hip hop.

Active from 1986 to 1991, the rap group endured controversy due to the explicit nature of their lyrics, and was subsequently banned from many mainstream U.S. radio stations. In spite of this, the group has sold over 10 million CD units in the U.S. alone.

The original lineup consisted of Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and MC Ren; Arabian Prince embarked on a solo career in 1989 and Ice Cube left in December of that year over royalty disputes. Several members would later become platinum-selling solo artists in the 1990s. Their debut album Straight Outta Compton marked the beginning of the new gangsta rap era as the production and social commentary in their lyrics were revolutionary within the genre.

Rolling Stone ranked N.W.A number 83 on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time

Formation and "Panic Zone" (1986–1988)

The group was assembled by Compton-based Eazy-E, who co-founded Ruthless Records with Jerry Heller. Initially, N.W.A consisted of Eazy-E and Dr. Dre, who in turn brought DJ Yella on board. Dre and Yella were both formerly members of the World Class Wreckin' Cru, as DJs and producers. Ice Cube was added to the roster after he had started out as a rapper for the group "C.I.A."

Ruthless released the single "Panic Zone" in 1987 with Macola Records, which was later included on the compilation album N.W.A. and the Posse. N.W.A was still in its developing stages, and is only credited on three of the eleven tracks, notably the uncharacteristic record "Panic Zone," "8-Ball," "Dopeman," which marked the first collaboration of Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. Mexican rapper Krazy-Dee co-wrote "Panic Zone," which was originally called "Hispanic Zone," but the title was later changed when Dr. Dre advised Krazy-Dee that the word "hispanic" would hinder sales. Also included was Eazy-E's solo track "Boyz-n-the Hood." In 1988, rapper MC Ren joined the group.

And NWA were at the forefront of that shift. Chuck D of Public Enemy famously described the likes of Public Enemy, Ice-T and NWA as something like CNN for black people. NWA's first-person lyrics described the brutality and injustices of black urban lifestyles for young males in the era where crack cocaine devastated black communities in a very vivid way; 'fukk The Police' epitomised the 'black CNN' quote in a hugely influential way.

NWA had a 4 year run...

Wu Tang Clans story puts them in the category of greatest hip hop group of all time. Either Wu or Run DMC.

And that tells you how Great NWA, Wu or Run DMC and their family tree is not impacting hip hop today like NWA, NWA and their legacy is still running hip hop and the charts....NWA impact socially is greater than Run DMC and Wu Tang

Wrong

Run DMC were the prototypes for the successful mainstream Rap Group. Which means anything after Run DMC is an extension of Run DMC so any succesful rap group success an extension of the blueprint laid out by Run DMC....Migos are Run DMC

The biggest thing NWA brought to the game was profanity. Run DMC were bigger in the 80's then NWA. FACTS. This family tree thing u talking is something u just made up and a reach. I'm not talking extensions....I'm talking about the actual group. Run DMC again was the prototype but fell off after 1993. NWa broke up in 1991 they made a somewhat comeback with UP In Smoke and the songs Chin Check and HELLO. then made a lil comeback in 2015 with The movie but havent been active since 2000 with Hello. Thats a 15 year GAP since NWA did anything as a group....meanwhile The Wu have put out music all thruout the 2000's and 2010's. Raekwon just put out a banging album thats better then Dres Compton. In the 2000's Wu members made better albums then solo NWA members. Also.....Jam Master Jay getting killed shut down Run DMC.....NWA couldnt get along.....meanwhile.......WU TANG NEVER BROKE UP!!!

NWA will always be 3rdt place behind Run DMC and Wu Tang
