he physically cant take the banging on the other end or on the glass from other respective 5s....that may have 30-50 pounds on him
part of the reason why he's good at defending the rim is cause he roams a lot off his man to come help...especially off the weak side....
he's also not disciplined enough to play the 5 without fouling a lot
he already picks up a lot of silly fouls as it is.
