I heard a rumor all of this might be to keep the wolves from trading with the Mavs. Basically Phil met with Markennan and with these KP trade rumors the wolves can't be certain he'll be there at #9. Meaning if they want Lauri they are going to have to draft him at #7 leaving the Knicks to pick either Monk or Ntilikina at #8

Even so it's not like KP had some lights out season in spite of the Knicks being dysfunctional. He had an extremely subpar season and quite honestly it looked like he regressed in certain ways, and couldn't stay healthy to boot. He's not in any position to skip exit meetings or make demands. Only reason he is a star to the extent that he is now is because he's in NY, if he was drafted by some other squad less people would even know who he is. Phil isn't the conventional GM and I don't like the optics of the whole thing either, but when you put things in perspective you can't really say he's wrong.

This has been his whole tenor with the Knicks ahd it's clear he doesn't understand what it takes to be a good executive as he's accomplished almost nothing except KP and he's trying to get rid of him .
