This proposal by Bloomberg is terrible, and for what it's worth he has his good days with some of his policies...sometimes........I feel bad for folks being forced to get a studio apartment smaller than 400 square feet (standard minimum size).... :snoop: .... :wow:

Mayor Bloomberg Proposes 300-Square-Foot 'Micro' Apartments For New York City Singles
Meredith Galante | Jul. 10, 2012, 10:16 AM

Mayor Michael Bloomberg unveiled yesterday plans for studio apartments in New York City that will be between 275 and 300 square feet—apartments so small they are considered illegal under current building code, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Bloomberg is currently accepting proposals for the apartments, which will be located on E 27th Street and First Avenue in Kips Bay. The apartments would help young professionals find appropriate housing in the city while they start their careers.
The craziest thing about these 300-square-foot apartments (which are about the size of half a subway car) is that they will cost around $2,000 a month to rent.
Under current zoning laws, all apartments must be at least 400 square feet, but Bloomberg said he plans to change the zoning laws to make the new micro-units legal.
Bloomberg said there is a huge demand for single-person households in the city. Currently there are 1.8 million one- and two-person households, but only 1 million studio and one-bedroom apartments, officials said.
The apartments will all be 10 by 30 feet, and must have a window and a kitchen area—talk about luxury! The complex is expected to have around 80 units.
Bloomberg said if he was younger he would be more than happy to live in one of these apartments. He lived in a 600-square-foot studio on 66th St. for $120 a month for nearly a decade, according to The New York Post.
The mayor's current Upper East Side mansion is 41 times the size of the purposed apartments.

^^ From post #297 .......... I agree with myself months later :ohhh:........ these "micro-apartments" are sham and a shame...... I just have trouble understanding how living in under 500 square footage for a single person, no less a couple or family is acceptabe.........even in a super dense city like this......again the smallest an partment can be is 500 square feet before these were allowed.........and the prices you going be paying....:dwillhuh:

'My Micro NY' Wins adAPT NYC Competition - Business Insider

This morning, Mayor Bloomberg announced the winning design for the 300-square-foot "micro apartments" that are intended to create affordable housing for singles in New York City.

A project called My Micro NY from Monadnock, nARCHITECTS, and the Actors Fund HDC beat 33 other proposals to win the competition, adAPT NYC.

Based on the winning design, the city's first "micro" building will have 55 rental apartments, all ranging from 250- to 370-square-feet with big windows, ample storage space, and Juliet balconies. The building will also have a public meeting space, café, and common rooftop garden for residents, as well as a laundry room, residential storage space, a bike room, and fitness space.

Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2014 at 335 East 27th Street, in Kips Bay.

Residents are expected to begin moving in by September 2015. The building will be rent stabilized, environmentally friendly, and — with the exception of the size — will follow all local, state, and federal housing regulations.

Under current zoning laws, all apartments must be at least 400 square feet, but Bloomberg said in July that the new micro-units would be an exception.

My Micro NY will also be the first multi-family building in Manhattan to use modular construction, with the modules prefabricated locally by Capsys at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Modular construction is said to be safer and more efficient since the plumbing, electrical, and building development is done in a controlled, indoor environment.

The city is expecting a wait list for the apartments, which will likely range from $940 for a studio up to $1700 for a two-person apartment. A few units will be reserved for low-income families.

The contest was developed to address the growing need in New York City for affordable studios, one person- and two person-households. It is a part of Mayor Bloomberg's New Housing Marketplace Plan, a multi-billion dollar initiative to finance 165,000 units of affordable housing for an expected 500,000 New Yorkers.

The winning design is also featured in the Museum of the City of New York's exhibit, Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers, alongside four other notable designs that were proposed in the adAPT contest.

"New York’s ability to adapt with changing times is what made us the world’s greatest city," Bloomberg said at this morning's press conference. "And it’s going to be what keeps us strong in the 21st Century."

:ehh:

It's happening everywhere. DMV ppl can speak on this. My thing is since it's inevitable, black people who are able need to get their hands on some of these properties. A lot of the gentrification in New York is coming from people who never OWNED the places they were residing in. That's why I'm advocating relocation for a better life. Instead of renting for 10 years plus, come down south, buy a place and make your money work for you. You can own a home, send your kids to quality schools and potentially start a business or at least buy some properties with all that money these guys are blowing in rent. :manny:

None of this is easy but all PRO's New Yorkers state are things that for the most part are irrelevant. Good you can set the MET, but when have you actually gone?

When have you been to all these museums, landmarks, etc? Cool your food trucks have been on the Food Network. :laff: I'm sorry the shh these dudes are biggin up is some child's play shh. None of it has to do with ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OR ADVANCEMENT. Just a bunch of entertainment :trash:

That just sounds mad immature. Staying in places less than 400 sq feet is not humane and in an expensive place where most people are struggling to get by. Lack of ownership is what got them into the mess they are in the first place and some people STILL refuse to change their strategy to live a better life.

This morning i noticed for the first time as i was riding the E to work, 85 percent of the subway car was non black, maybe 90% to be honest, i was shocked as hell, have that many blacks moved out of Queens? Granted i get on at Roosevelt after transferring from the R where it is mainly Asian and Spanish but what the hell happened to blacks from Queens?

 2bdroom is $900

Matter of fact, there's even a studio above me right now being advertised for $550
You have to have a kid to get in, or can a young person get in as well?
Also, is it spots over where they have street parking?

Its not just for families or elderly like people seem to think. Anyone can get in. There's street parking by me. The apts are all over tho.
