It's wild. Every block has these hideous gentrififier condos now in BK. It's killing bthe flavor
its because building materials are so cheap

im really expecting most of them to come down with black mold in the next 10yrs or so but hell it may mean nothing

owner may be able to tear down and rebuild with no real cost

ive said this already before- cities esp NYC doesnt want neighborhoods anymore ...least not ones with residents there for more than 10 or 12 years

they want the "churn" get people moving in and then eventually moving the hell out to kick in that new mkt rate rent rate

thats why landlords are so willing to allow multiple roommates - they just want the rent they dont give a shyt about wear and tear ...and really don't care for ypu to be a tenant for longer than 5 yrs

Yeah, they think that rent prices can go up infinitely at the expense of having a real community of any sorts. They think like tourists, so they can push out anyone after 3-5 years to find new tenants, just like you said. Disgusting how there is no regulation against landlords.

COVID19 done changed the dynamics for the time being.

There is regulation IF the apt gets no upgrades

However (NYC ONLY ) if you are a long term renter and you leave the apt - the landlord can jack the rent up if they do any upgrades

If they change the cabinets or the stove or put in a new fridge ( all these things are way cheaper than the regular cost for you or me ) they can put the apt out for mkt rate

Again in a city where the median income is 50K its crazy to see what is offered to working ppl as an acceptable situation that NO politician ...even AOC has addressed

The median amt for a 1 BR in nyc....2100

A mortgage can run you 3gs

Starter homes are 350k - 500k

How can a regular family ever purchase a home with 20% down???

I swear all of those buildings are only meant to last as long as the tax breaks are valid

That’s the same situation folks are dealing with down here in the DC Metro area... It’s evil if you ask me.
