I was always curious does only using the step machine or treadmill as a way to warm yourself up for weights ok for cardio purposes? Or is treadmill better or worse due to the impact?Low impact exercises like the step machine and cycling help strengthen the calves as well as the thin muscular and bone tissues around the fibula. It's good prep work for endurance running and/or jogging.. People forget that running is actually can be very taxing on your lower extremities (hams, quads, calves, shins, ankles, feet and toes) due to the force displaced by such rapid movement. Your body needs to adjust to it.
