Can’t name one Swift song. Is she actually good? Or does she suck like all these other current white artists out here?

I said this in another thread but it’s the same reason Jennifer Aniston was “America’s Sweetheart.”

Started off as a non-threatening country artist. Appealed to the “salt of the earth” crowd. :mjpls:

Built a fanbase being basic and relatable just like Jennifer Anniston. Nothing exotic or spicy. Parents were happy to have their daughters idolize her.

Kanye’s tantrum helped her gain even more sympathy. Had Beyonce having to apologize to her and pass the pop “baton” to her on that same night.

Her being the antithesis to the oversexed pop stars at the time (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga) left a huge gap in the market for her to fill.

That’s also why Adele was so huge (no pun intended). Just like Taylor, she was able to corner the adult contemporary and pop market by being non-sexual/threatening.

Sadly, a black female artist will never be allowed to be non-sexual and equally as successful. Their image is always made to be precocious a la Monica.

Her debut should’ve been teen-bop not grown folk music. Same with Usher, Aaliyah etc… but that’s for another thread.
