It was almost to the day where that poor woman was raped on the bus last year.

India has nothing to protect women. It's like the culture has embraced rape.

I wonder how @zerozero feels about the ban against homosexuality.

You should focus on the rape here in the states than just over in other countries.

Both are bad and both warrant discussion. The frequency and lack of protections for women under law warrant special attention and mention as they're not issues that most developed countries face.

Yes both warrant discussion but only discussion since we don't live there. On the other hand we have many rape cases here that don't get special attention as they do in the 3rd world. News coverage wants to be all up and hip on rape in India but not rape in the military here. It's been ignored greatly here.

We shouldn't discuss something because we don't live there? That's absurd. Rape cases get plenty of coverage in America, they're just not international issues because they're not a reflection on our laws or protection of women. Rape in the military has been a raging topic and new policy and laws have been enacted last year and this year. Not a lot has changed in India since the case with the college girl on the bus last year who later died from her injuries. The government of India refuses to act, it's a black eye on humanity. I also remember a large number of Indian politicians have been charged/accused of rape and are were being currently prosecuted/convicted. You yourself are advocating rape by limiting the discussion.

I didn't say anything about not discussing it since we don't live there. Discussion/dialogue is good but it changes nothing for the victims or future victims in that country unless the people of the country stand up to it. Rape cases seem to be shocking because in international countries we characterize it in great detail but those who have been raped in the states...the details and outrage seem to get lost in translation. The reason I have brought the military rapes up is because both women and men are being raped. Gov't officials turning away here is just as a black eye as the government of India is. You trying to correlate me discussing rape in the states that should be focused on as avocation of rape by not focusing on India. I never ever and will never ever advocate for such a vile act.

India can't snap its fingers and make "rape gangs" disappear overnight. What would you like them to do exactly?

Rapid modernization and a population that has millions more men than it does women is seriously fukking things up in this regard.

You have this "new woman" in India now - modern, educated and you see them all over...nothing wrong with that, but then you have millions of these deprived young males who have no money, no future, and no hope bombarded with images of success and wealth by the Indian media 24-7 letting them know that they aint shyt. They don't see themselves as a part of the future of the country so a lot of them give zero fukks.

anyway women aint running around India scared to death, it's not like that at all, and it shouldn't be. You know where to stay away from and where not to venture to alone. It's not that serious.
