Being alive to experience a new millennium was the biggest deal. Everything was marketed by putting a "2000" at the end. SlingShot2000, Frisbee2000, NBA2000, etc. Music vids followed suit. The aesthetics were dope, but I can see why it would all be considered cheesy nowadays, considering fashion, music, and culture is cyclical. So when the 00's actually came, they ditched the "future-inspired" cyberpunk aesthetic and hit the reset button. Basically everything in the 00's stylistically ended up going backwards and borrowed stuff from the 80's. And the 2010's ended up being 90's throwback. So technically in a weird ironic way folks are starting to bring back that late 90's "new millennium Cyber chic" back via 90's nostalgia, THUS ironically and almost sarcastically fulfilling the prophecy in those late 90's music vids, about how folks would dress in the 00's.
