Dude shouldn't have broke into his house. :manny:

That said, I still don't like this "stand your ground" law, I feel like it's ultimately just going to encourage people to shoot each other more. If it's self-defense then you should be able to prove that to a jury, I don't see any need for extra laws encouraging violence.

Japan, but from the 989
So from the way the law is written it would be safe to assume if someone breaks into someone's private property.... the homeowner can do whatever it takes to kill the person and it is legal. Even if they are trying to retreat, if they are still on your land you can kill them. The presumption is if someone breaks into your house they come to inflict bodily harm. So kill them. It's a good law, for homeowners but it can be abused. A creative mothafukka could let you come over and then "say" you were breaking in and shoot your ass. Make the crime scene look like a break in and boom there you go. This law totally throws out the duty to retreat.

Problem is though youre home alone in the dark. Theres no way to tell if theyre armed.

If Sean Taylor was armed with a pistol instead of a bat, theres a good chance he'd still be here imo

He broke into a mans home. Theres no sign above a burglars head that says *im here to kill you* or not. Its sickening how liberal states are coming to a point where a trespasser in the process of committing a crime on your property has rights.

I actually don't oppose this. If someone were to break into my place they'd be dealt the same fate...

This isn't some small encounter on the street, this a total disrespect of my privacy, and the intruders intentions are fully unknown.

gotta hear from @BarNone on this one...

I don't know, someone with a mental disability randomly walked into one of my boy's house a couple years back. The person was random as shyt, and ten walked out and dude just called the police. If he would've just capped the person then it would be an awful story. I think the laws are fine as they were, use reasonable force, or if you are in reasonable fear of a violent injury. But it's a case by case basis. @ltheghost is right, this is basically eliminating the duty to retreat.

I get the whole "he shouldn't have been breaking in" thing. I agree, but that's the logic that a lot of conservatives use that one's initial act then justifies the subsequent acts that one takes. What if that had been a family member trying to get in, I have been locked out numerous times and jumped in through the window. The point is, this law takes away a person's duty to observe a situation before acting, and any attempt to preserve human life. This was not a split section decision. The dude waited outside for 5 minutes and took forever to call the police. He shifted from fear to hunter.

This is a step towards vigilante justice. Camping outside of waiting for a dude who doesn't even know where you are is the equivalent to shooting an unarmed man in the back that's running away.

For all you know the burglar is retreating because his gun jammed or he forgot to load his gun. Shoot that Criminal. I dont care if heard the shotty, got spooked and ran for his life, hes getting shot. Just because you bit off more than you could chew doesnt mean you're going to live. Probably saving someone else from actually being victimized in some way. Alot of burglars are rapists so they get that P.O.W......................................POW!

He'd probably just make one call on his cell, to Goldberg, and it would be a class action if he wasn't immediately released.

Live in the south, brehs, there's no catch with those cheap houses I guess

Prices are always cheaper in Cacville. Where theres multiculturalism, the rent is serious.

7 shots, and after 5 minutes the cops still didn't show up? Criminals better not expect mercy in FL or TX.
