There's truly nothing we can do at this point but buckle up and hope for a cure earlier than expected. This entire thing was bungled from the beginning. We needed legitimate plans and testing and sacrifices to be made. But since leadership didn't want to do that and was focused on the economy because its an election year, we're fukked
See, thats the thing though. The economy matters. It will die 10x faster than the population as we have already seen. Just the inherent weakness of the vaunted Capitalist system.
When millions lose their jobs, they also lose health insurance. If they had jobs that offered it, that is. So you have tens of millions of people losing their healthcare at a time it is needed most. States then have a dual burden of paying out UI while at the same time having their tax revenue trickle down to nothing. The longer the economy is "paused" once temporary furloughs become permanent layoffs. Previously unaffected segments of the economy would suffer and job losses would continue.
We're just talking about job losses here, the most basic and visible effect of pausing a hyper-capitalistic system. There are so many knock on effects big and small that would only worsen since we're also going through a pandemic. The economy is a big, interconnected body. It's also a weak house of cards. And while the Government loves it, it won't fund it via extended stimulus payments. It's going to work the way it's always worked.....human sacrifice.
When people shyt on Capitalism THIS IS WHY!!!!! Because in crisis it leaves you with no alternatives but die miserably or potentially die miserably. This is only made worse by America's shrill partisanship of EVERY fukkING ISSUE and general ignorance of well..........everything. But we're so confidently stupid though. If only they did this ONE SIMPLE THING that I happen to agree with this hugely complex issue would be over in........
Two weeks.
