After the immense ratings and social media success of BET’s “The New Edition Story,” many fans were quite vocal about what group they hoped would be the focus of the network’s next bio-miniseries – Jodeci.

It appears they’ll get their wish, although not on BET, but on one of its sister networks, VH1 (they backed and aired the Aaliyah biopic a couple of years ago).

The Jodeci news was revealed by group member Mr. Dalvin during an interview with Q102.1 FM in San Francisco, which he shared on his Instagram page 2 days ago. During the interview, which he mentioned that a Jodeci screen project was in the works, with production set to begin in a month or two. Apparently VH1 bought the rights to the Jodeci story early last year, commissioned a script, which is now done. Dalvin added that fans should expect a premiere of the finished product towards the end of this year. On his Instagram page, he also said that casting details would be announced soon.

The popular R&B quartet included members DeVante Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci, and JoJo. Formed in 1983 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jodeci signed with Uptown Records in 1991, and released their debut album, “Forever My Lady,” that same year, which brought them mainstream success with the Billboard Hot 100 single “Come and Talk to Me” and the album’s titular track. The group’s critical and commercial success continued with the releases of “Diary of a Mad Band” (1993), and also with “The Show, the After Party, the Hotel” (1995), where the group experimented with various musical styles typically not associated with traditional R&B. In 1996, they announced a hiatus, which prompted K-Ci & JoJo to branch off as a duo, releasing a number of albums until 2013, when the group re-united for their fourth studio album, “The Past, The Present, The Future “(2015).

Jodeci has sold more than 20 million records worldwide to date, and are considered one of the most influential groups of the 1990s, and one of the best R&B groups of all time.

A film on their story should certainly do well with fans.

One can only now wonder if we should expect many more of these tele bio projects on landmark, popular musicians of the recent past.

Watch Mr. Davlin break the news during his interview with 0102.1 FM below:

Basically. Honestly, I'll be shocked if DeVante has ANYTHING to do w/ this because that nikka has half way made it to anything that has to do w/ Jodeci for the last 20 some years. That nikka is a hermit.

What I mean is that he's only been known to do appearances sporadically.

Like he'll pop here and there; like sometimes when they've done shows overseas but he half assed even promoted Jodeci's last album. When they came to The Breakfast Club, it was K-Ci, JoJo and Dalvin. No DeVante in sight. Same w/ a lot of other interviews they've done over the years. DeVante is hardly ever around or in the spotlight and it's been this way for YEARS now. Those guys been all over the place as a group for years. shyt has never been quite the same w/ the 4 on the same page for decades and it shows time and time again.

That's why I say I'll be shocked if he's involved at all w/ this movie. If he is, he must need the money now.

probably will never happen mainly because there isn't a "happy ending"
the stuff people would want to see (Uptown 90s) won't be agreed upon by the individual group members
You would expect this to really be the KCi & JoJo story since Devante and Dalvin have been nonexistent for 20 years
Atleast KC/JoJo had a post Jodeci career but like I said, there isn't a happy ending with all them going on some reunion tour or making hits
