At the time of release this was a good movie
But over time it's wild cheesy so I'm not mad at this
Since it's borderline now
Movies like Tango & Cash fit in that mold
The Leprechaun movies

They were great movies no doubt but they weren't written like cinematic masterpieces though and were still good. All deez shyts are classics!!! :
No they were all good, they just weren't supposed to be.Wow. You don’t like these??
So you’re telling me big trouble in little China, a movie directed by john carpenter and written by WD Richter, produced by fox, released at the height of Carpenters powers, starring Kurt Russell wasn’t supposed to be good?No they were all good, they just weren't supposed to be.
The title of the thread is movies so bad they were good.
Short circuit for example a military robot that really becomes human. That movie sounds trash on paper until you watch it and you're like...
Nah it wasn't it just worked though. So you’re telling me big trouble in little China, a movie directed by john carpenter and written by WD Richter, produced by fox, released at the height of Carpenters powers, starring Kurt Russell wasn’t supposed to be good?
Been lol there’s no way in hell I believe that movie wasn’t supposed to be good. I’ve listened to john talk about that movie. I know how much it means to him. How much work they put in in it and how blown everyone was when it tanked. They didn’t make that movie as a larkNah it wasn't it just worked though.
I wasn't really feeling They Live and Starman anywhere near to that degree and they were Carpenter movies too.
Plenty of good directors and actors have flops and movies not received as well.
Big Trouble Little China was great though. One of the few movies I can watch over and over.
Okay. My bad.No they were all good, they just weren't supposed to be.

It’s not even that. It’s movies that are “bad” but good. A movie like street fighter is the perfect example. It misses the mark as to what it’s trying to do, everyone is acting like they’re in different movies, guile is played my van damme, and it has a scene where a fight between Honda and Zangief has Godzilla sound effects. Yet it’s entertaining as hell in spite of itself.Okay. My bad.
Title suggests otherwise
Movies that Looked bad but ended up being Good is more like it

Big trouble went for a specific tone and flavor and accomplished all of that. Same with Taladega Nights
It's actually one of my favorite movies of all time.Been lol there’s no way in hell I believe that movie wasn’t supposed to be good. I’ve listened to john talk about that movie. Timing and knowing your audience is everything though.
The timing might not have been right for it, I've seen good movies released at the same time as other good movies that bomb due to one having a star cast or better advertising or something of that nature.
I would have liked to have seen Carpenter make an Escape from New York trilogy as well.
