King Biko
A King With A Concubine
Only thing i ain't like is that he aint kick that verse 4 the projects
Why not?exactly. to me this track is kinda like an interlude freestyle. but I like it because it has a chill vibe. Nas flowed different from the other tracks. super slow but with not one slip up.
that track prevented illmatic to be a best of kind of album. you can't have an album full of Billie jeans.
it's really the weaker track on illmatic but only by default
Yeah, I've heard more people wishing that Nas would've rapped on the intro than praise him for the actual rapping he did on OT4YM.It's by default the most underrated track because as you said it hardly gets mentioned if at all. Hell I bet the Genesis intro gets more mentions than the track.
But it is still the worst track on the album. Very solid though.
What you mean be that, breh? Expand on that for me.exactly. to me this track is kinda like an interlude freestyle. but I like it because it has a chill vibe. Nas flowed different from the other tracks. super slow but with not one slip up.

DX: So you guys were listening to tracks and you knew they were going to be big?
Large Professor: Yeah, yeah, yeah. We were sitting there like, “Yo, we’re getting ready to get em,” like, “This is gonna be crazy right here!” Yeah, definitely.
DX: And, “One Time 4 Your Mind,” that was the same deal? That was at Chung King as well?
Large Professor: Yeah, that was at Chung King. That was kind of crazy, because I did that beat in the studio. We kind of just vibed out. That was a cool joint, because it was like I was just sitting there… We were all sitting there, just kind of just going through some records and I put it together. He was like, “A’ight, that’s good enough right there.” Then he kind of went in, and that’s why it’s not as concentrated as everything else. It’s just like a cool joint; it’s just like, “Yo, didn’t I send a shorty to the store for Phillies?” He was just taking it light like, “What’s an average day in Queensbridge?” kind of thing.
[8] “ONE TIME 4 YOUR MIND”
Produced by LARGE PROFESSOR
Large Professor: We got this kinda attitude. It wasn’t like, “Yo, the budget,” and all that type of shyt. It was cool, ’cause it was a little quick rhyme that he had. Some shortie-to-the-store shyt, like that. Not like he was tryin’ to go too hard or lyrical. It was just like, “Yo, I’m a regular dude. I’ll kick some cool, around-the-way, corner shyt for you.”
Nas: Honestly, that song was just like, “Hey, we chilling.” That song, I didn’t give a fukk— it was just, go in there and have fun. I wanted Wiz’s voice on that. Out of everybody around, I thought that he had a voice that can be on a record and come off. I always wanted him to rhyme and shyt, and that was my way of pushing him into that shyt.
Grand Wizard: At the time, we were just listening to the beat, and Nas was like, “Come in [the booth] with me and help me with the hook.” So I get on the mic and say, “One time for ya mind, one time…” And Nas comes in with, “Yeah, whatever…” He just knew how to bounce off of me.
