Is anyone gonna check this out?

Like it kills me how certain pretentious cars like to butch and whine about all the sequel and comic book movies that’s the rage now.

Or was mad with Disney getting that Fox takeover and claiming “it’s the end of original movies”

But no one running to see this or hyping it up

Martha
This movie looks like a real risk on a new adventure idea. Props to the studio.

It came out today in the UK.

I thought it was a really good film. I haven't read the book (will do in the future), so I'm not sure how well it's been adapted.

Anyone else watched it?

I don't think it opens here in the states until the 14th. I'm 1st day on it.

I love sci-fi and fantasy but this looks dumb as hell. One of those movies where the whole premise kills its chances.

Every fantasy premise is dumb and impossible, which is why they are story driven. From what I understand they really flesh out the world in the books. Can't be a sitting Target when the world is full nukes being used

Just saw it in IMAX, visuals were on point. The setting was more interesting than the actual story, which was just ok but very predictable.

I like that it didn't scream "sequels/franchise", it could work on it's own and wrapped things up nicely while obviously leaving room for more stories to be told.

Shrike represents the Heart Chakra. His eyes were green. When he was going to impale Tom, he aimed for the heart.

Just something interesting I noticed.

I would say a 7.

The setting/visuals are what I enjoyed the most, actors do their thing but don't really stand out. There's a subplot that I felt was more interesting than the main story, which I guess got more focus in the book.

It has one strong character imo (the one from the subplot) but not enough to warrant anything higher. The IMAX experience makes it worth it.

For reference in the fantasy genre I would give the last few 2018 fantasy movies I've seen:

Fantastic Beasts 2 - 8
Overlord - 8
Venom - 7.5
Predator - 5.5
Antman and the Wasp - 7.5
Hereditary - 9
Solo - 7.5
Jurassic World 2 - 6
Infinity War - 10
Deadpool 2 - 7
Black Panther - 10
Ready Player One - 7.5
