pretty disproportionate actually.

Given their numbers in the western world, their representation among the nobluarates(spelling) is disproportionate as well. There are too many indian business leaders too.

food for thought.

it's kinda interesting that indian-american politicans are coming up from the south rather than the coasts

but yeah basically in terms of public entertainer type figures you really need people like Russel Peters, Aziz Ansari, other people who're totally acculturated to american culture to have the edge required for comedy

I saw in the comments someone make a comparison to how east asian males are seen in American media

that is to say, the breakout stars are females from these demographics, whereas the male is more desexualized even when he's shown

why do you feel that way?

:ehh:

not sure. Your question was kind of odd right? Do I feel proud? No not really. It just is what it is. I do think there should be adequate and diverse representation of my ethnic background(s) as with everyone else's but that's more political. Nothing personal.

on a deeper level (just speculating) maybe it's because in America I didn't feel sidelined/marginalized etc so it's not redemptive or transformative for me to see the mainstreaming of indian characters.. a lot of us indian folk tend to fit into mainstream america pretty well so we don't need to see each other on MTV, CNN etc that much to feel comfortable. This is just a guess though, I don't really know. Could be just a personal tic as in I don't care about this currently.

Russell is Canadian from Toronto to the core and it shows in his comedy (multicultural jokes). Aziz is very American tho. Both are hip hop heads too.

I'm not surprised that Indian politicians are coming out the south at all. Most are Conservative in values.

I've heard Indians complain before that the only Indian on TV was apu on the simpsons :russ:, and that there should be more Indians on those medical shows that were hot for a minute. Never mattered to me though :manny: people need something to bytch about though. Them same Indians complaining would probably never let a black person in their house, fukk outta here.
