It wasn't ugly long ago breh. It used to have a strong magnetosphere which protected it from solar radiation. However, that magnetic field became weaker and weaker like a hairline retreating friend. Once the magnetic field was in a weaken state the solar radiation blasted the atmosphere of mars away.

So now that the planet is dead, lifeless and barren its a great opportunity to move there and set up a colony. Im sorry but this makes no sense. The only reason there is to live there is scientists have found something they dont want to admit to friends. Otherwise, the planet is ugly, boring and trashy.
