Money and greed is the reason Europeans/America are on top right now. from the 1500 - 1900 China, Arabs, India Ran shyt . But guess what ? They were too comfortable, had no need to expand. While Europeans where clashing with each other (Portugal, Spain , Dutch, etc) and each needed to make moves to be the top dog. This Rivalry stemmed off greed and money led them to where we are today. Now look at China, India there are at the bottom. Middle east got oil , but lets be real they suffering too.

Imagine if the Aztecs&China were greedy enough to make a boat that went across the ocean and flipped the script . But they was comfty .

As far as holding technology back? i cant say thats true , what are comparing it too? Its moving faster than ever.
I say the habit of being Entertained or wanting to be entertainers ( sports , concerts ,sex, movies, stand up , etc) is holding alot of people back from joining STEM . That right there is keeping thousands of inventions/cures from coming to life.

Greed and money is good , not when your got L's stacked up tho.

Greed runs the world. It's embedded in our genes. If it wasn't for greed, we, as humans, probably wouldn't have much.

Kinda sucks humans are programmed like that though. But what are you gonna do?

I disagree. While we haven't been back to the moon we have broadened our understanding of the cosmos exponentially. Advances in nanotechnology, 3d printing and even the internet are further advancing our species to becoming a type 1 civilization. Just yesterday I was reading about graphene and how MIT scientists are using this new material to create infrared sensors. They mentioned how this now allows for contact lenses to be fitted with graphene sensors that would allow people to view wavelengths not visible to the naked eye. Normally it takes 40 years from the invention of a new material to make it to societies reach. Graphene was invented 10 years ago and it's already being produced and will revolutionize the world. Truthfully that alone deserves it's own thread.

I don't agree with capitalism, but I will say that pursuit of greed drives technology. In that never ending race for cash new technologies are created and the world is redifined. That never has occurred in history until now. So while it is far from perfect we do benefit from it.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Greed is one of the main reasons we do advance. Capitalism harnesses greed and turns it into a positive. Kind of like marriage does with having sex.

Greed hasn't advanced much. Greed makes people hold on to what makes money. To what's been working all along. Greed makes the military hoard technological advances from civilian application. For example, The military has been using detachable "black boxes" that float in water in their fighter jets for over a decade. Airlines don't want to use them because they say its too expensive. So instead of waiting years trying to find a jet in the ocean just to get to the black box, it could be found within 24 hours every time.

The only thing that has really advanced is the creation of wealth out of thin air. The stock market.

Greed is responsible for farming. Greed is responsible for cities. Greed is responsible for countries. The drive to gather and hoard resources to protect yourself from things is what caused civilization.

All that vague shyt like ''the advancement of human civilization'' does is gather way too many variables under the idealistic mantle of one common denominator that isn't really realistic.

The exploitation of the work force optimizes production, for one. If you're focusing on the productive capacity of the economy to put out really shiny technology (as you seem to be), the system is great. Now if you're gonna put people's quality of life before that and adopt an equalitarian distribution of wealth, then you lose the hoarding of capital that fuels investments and keeps the industry going in the first place. You'd have to devise a new economic system of production completely different from capitalism in order to be able to condemn greed in a way that's even remotely practical.

Well said but I gotta disagree on the bolded. A lot of technology is held back because of greed. There is no reason using combustible engines should still be the standard in our transportation considering it destroys the environment and dependacy on a finite resource. Alternative fuels/power should be more prominent at this stage but is not because oil companies won't relinquish their power. Same with the medical industry, no cure for the common cold?? :stopitslime: Nah its a billion dollar industry.:yeshrug: Sip this $5 bottle of Tylenol which doesn't cure shyt and stfu
