I was google searching to see if there is anymore about Luther being a fan and this is a few things I found:

In a 1981 interview with Rolling Stone, Luther Vandross, who was still pretty early in his career at that point, told the magazine "I'd wrestle Bruno Sammartino to work with Aretha Franklin". Kasem related this story, describing Sammartino as "the world wrestling champion for many years". Apparently, Aretha heard about the interview, looked up Luther's work and they collaborated on an album. And then Casey played Aretha's single ("Jump to It") from that album.
