It's pretty new. They think people are less likely to change the channel on eliminations during matches rather than going to commercial in the middle of a match.

Well they’ve been doing elimination tags and 2/3 falls matches a lot lately so they can given wrestlers breaks during commercials, I guess they’re trying to make it like MMA and Boxing but it comes off awkward to the crowd because commercial breaks in WWE lasts 5 minutes compared to 30 seconds in MMA/Boxing.
